NORTH ATTLEBORO - Two separate drug busts, both in the works since February, resulted in four arrests late last week.
Two Cumberland, R.I., men were arrested last Thursday after allegedly selling cocaine and Ecstasy to an undercover state trooper. One of the suspects, Philip Donahue, allegedly sold these drugs to the trooper a few weeks earlier.
Police charged Donahue, 18, with distributing cocaine, distributing Ecstasy, a drug violation in a school zone and conspiracy to violate the drug law. Police charged Daniel W. Marsland, 18, with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, conspiracy to violate the drug law, and a drug violation in a school zone.
The arrests happened in the Quiznos parking lot on South Washington Street. Donahue allegedly sold a bag of cocaine and five Ecstasy pills to the undercover cop there on Feb. 13 for $120: $60 for each drug.
The Quiznos parking lot is less than 1,000 feet from the Creative Children's Academy preschool on Hoppin Hill Avenue, police said.
North Attleboro police and troopers from the state police drug unit had been investigating Donahue about the unlawful sale of cocaine and Ecstasy,
Donahue and Marsland were ordered held on $500 cash bail following their arraignment last Friday. They are scheduled to return to Attleboro District Court on March 27.
Also last Thursday, a North Attleboro man and his girlfriend were arrested for allegedly dealing marijuana from their Lafayette Street apartment.
Information from a confidential informant led police to arrest Benjamin Heikin, 22, and Danielle Gaboury, 21, both of 33 Lafayette St., Apt. 2, at home.
Police said that during the week of Feb. 8, the informant told Detective Daniel Arrighi about marijuana deals happening at that residence.
Police, and state troopers, executed a search warrant there after putting the apartment under surveillance at times in February and March. Members of the Bristol County Drug Task Force also participated in the surveillance, during which authorities allegedly witnessed drug deals.
Police made a traffic stop shortly after one deal. The driver allegedly told police she had just bought $20 worth of marijuana from "Ben."
After executing the search warrant, police allegedly found a marijuana grinder, a digital scale and clear plastic bags which they said held marijuana.
Police charged Heikin and Gaboury with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and conspiracy to violate the drug law. Heikin also was charged with distributing marijuana.
Heikin and Gaboury pleaded not guilty during their arraignment last Friday in Attleboro District Court. They were released on personal recognizance. Their next court date is April 24.
