ATTLEBORO - If ever there was a year to possibly expand the Sun Chronicle indoor track all-star team to say, 40 kids, this would have been the year, as the local girls' teams had some of the best-ever performances, both as teams and as individuals.
League meets, Relays, Elite meets, All-States, New Englands, you name it and competitors from the area were dominating, from the shot put, to the hurdles, to the sprints and the relays.
The girls from Mansfield High, Bishop Feehan, Attleboro and Seekonk all captured their respective league titles, hardly a dual-meet loss between the four.
And it didn't stop there, as Mansfield went on to take third at the MIAA Division 2 Meet, followed closely by North Attleboro in fifth.
Perhaps only an ill-timed case of the 'Bishop Feehan flu' prevented the Shamrocks from bettering their third-place finish at the MIAA Division 3 Meet, but the team did manage to win the MSTCA Team Pentathlon title.
The South Coast Conference champion Warriors of Seekonk ended up in third place at the Division 4 Championships.
Bishop Feehan leads this year's All-Sun Chronicle team with six entries as the unbeaten and Eastern Athletic Conference Shamrocks are led by seniors Katie Barrett, Janelle McNeil and Trenna Schmidt. They are joined by juniors Jenn Thomas and Anisa Arsenault as well as sophomore Viviana Hanley.
The Mansfield girls, though second to none during the regular season, are represented by four standouts, while Seekonk, Norton, North Attleboro and Dighton-Rehoboth Regional all have two representatives.
Representing MHS are seniors Meghan Ferreira, Kelly McCabe and Michelle Jenssen as well as sophomore Emily Broyles.
Seekonk's SCC champion team is led by junior stars Janelle Clarkson and Krista Chauvin while D-R has senior Ashley Noons and newcomer, junior Sam Reddington.
For the OCL champion Bombardiers of Attleboro, senior Dara Edge makes another appearance and she is joined by junior Marie Gulino.
The Norton girls more than held their own against the rest of the Tri-Valley League this year and they are represented by senior repeat all-star Kelly Allen as well as first-timer, sophomore Courtney Williams.
North Attleboro also had a solid season and is represented by senior Julianne Cappadona and junior Christy Deininger. Sticking in the Hockomock League, senior Shannon Cunningham of Foxboro makes another appearance for indoor track.
