NORTON - No less than five energy supply companies have inquired about competing for Norton's business, Town Manager James Purcell says.
Purcell shared the news with selectmen Thursday night after telling them that he received energy audits of Norton's buildings earlier that day.
"We're talking about reducing consumption. But we're also talking about reducing the cost of our supply as well," Purcell said.
Purcell said he had not reviewed the energy audits.
This winter, a consultant to the school department said the schools should save more than $400,000 over 10 years through energy conservation.
In November, school officials said the district had saved almost $500,000 since implementing a program in December 2005, accounting for weather and other factors.
