TENNIS: Feehan girls on verge of tourney berth

DARTMOUTH - The Bishop Feehan High girls' tennis team moved to within a victory of clinching an MIAA Tournament berth after staging a 5-0 verdict over Bishop Stang Tuesday in an Eastern Athletic Conference match.
Siobhan Licudine, the Shamrocks' No. 1 singles player, lost just two games in winning her match in straight sets. Danielle Cardin and Diala Chahine also won their respective singles matches in straight sets for Bishop Feehan (7-3), which takes on Durfee today.
- The BISHOP FEEHAN boys rolled through the first two singles matches without losing a game on the way to a 4-1 triumph over Bishop Stang in the Eastern Athletic Conference. The first-doubles tandem of Mark McGwin and Matt Boland also improved to 6-1 on the season by beating Andrew Bednarz and Ben Dion 6-1, 6-3. Feehan (6-2, 2-2) visits Durfee today.
- MIAA Singles Tournament Elite Eight participant Alana Prinos, a freshman, lost just one game in taking her No. 1 singles match in powering FOXBORO to a 5-0 conquest of Stoughton in Hockomock League action. The Warriors (7-7) have a match today with Oliver Ames.
Senior Ben Young lost just two games in winning his No. 1 singles match in straight sets, while No. 3 player Malcolm Neville lost just three games as the Foxboro boys (3-11) took a 5-0 victory from Stoughton in the Hockomock League match. The Warriors entertain Oliver Ames today.
- NORTON High junior Kevin Fisher took highly-touted Ivan Bunin to a first-set tiebreaker at No. 1 singles, losing 14-12, while the Lancers (7-6) suffered a heart-breaking 4-1 loss at Ashland in a Tri-Valley League match. Pat Hillman won a pair of marathon 7-5 sets at No. 2 singles for the lone Lancer point.
- The DIGHTON-REHOBOTH boys (10-2) remained a notch behind Apponequet in the South Coast Conference, the second place squad pinning a 5-0 setback on Case. Bart Szytkowski did not lose a game in taking his No. 3 singles match, while No. 1 player Nate Fuller took a pair of 6-2 sets.
The Falcons entertain Bourne Thursday.
- Senior Heather Yany and sophomore Julia Ryan overcame a one-set deficit at No. 1 doubles, losing just four games the rest of the way in winning their match to bring about at 3-2 victory for SEEKONK (5-7) over Bourne in a South Coast Conference. The Warriors meet Apponequet Thursday.
