- Two houses were evacuated for about an hour Monday afternoon after local highway workers accidentally pulled up a natural gas line in Edwards Road, which was shut down to traffic as well.
The incident was reported about 3:30 p.m. in front of 16 Edwards Road.
"There was gas leaking. It was contained to that area," Fire Capt. Donald Treannie said.
Highway workers had been checking for utilities as they prepare for road reconstruction on Edwards Road. Bay State Gas Co. responded and shut the gas line down.
