NORFOLK - Jon Irwin pitched a two-hitter as the Norfolk American Legion baseball team opened its season with an 11-1 six-inning rout of Canton. Irwin allowed a first inning single and then blanked Canton through the middle four frames before yielding a solo homer.

The King Philip High Warrior struck out nine and walked two, while inducing eight ground ball outs.

Norfolk amassed 11 hits, six for extra bases. Andrew Fox clubbed three hits, including a homer; Connor Richards belted two hits, including a homer; Jarred Clement had three hits and two RBI and Paul Everett had two hits and two RBI.
