ATTLEBORO - Wamsutta Middle School pupils capped off a schoolwide community service week by collecting about 1,400 food items for a local food bank and participating in a number of other projects.
During the weeklong observance, fifth-graders made a quilt to be hung in the city library depicting how people help one another, while sixth graders wrote and illustrated their own stories in art and English classes. Students brought their books to Hyman Fine and Thacher elementary school, where they read to classes.
Seventh graders sponsored a lunchon for parents and volunteers who contributed time to the school during the year. Students read poetry and performed music for attendees.
Eighth-graders hosted a field day for third- and fourth-graders from Hyman Fine.
The entire school participated in a People and Pets project collecting food items for a food bank and the local animal shelter. At the end of the week, students wrote reflections on the importance of their projects and how they help at home and in the community.
