Class of 2010 commencement will be at the school
ATTLEBORO - Despite much discussion over the past two years, Attleboro High School's graduation will remain where it always has been next year: at the high school's Tozier-Cassidy Field.
The school committee approved a recommendation by Principal Jeff Newman Monday to schedule graduation ceremonies for 6 p.m. June 4, 2010 at the school field.
A poll of next year's prospective graduates said a majority favored moving graduation ceremonies to the Providence Performing Arts Center, where it was thought ceremonies would be shielded from rain and heat that sometimes plagues commencement. However a poll of parents of likely graduates indicated parents heavily favor keeping graduation at the high school.
A potential move has been considered the past two years, partly in reaction to bad weather forcing the ceremony into the cramped school gymnasium as it did this year.
School officials also said research indicated the school district would save money by holding the ceremony at the Providence theater.
