Chances abound to buy local produce at markets

Sun, surf and strawberries must mean it's summer time.

And it's that time of year for farmers' markets, and five markets are being held in the Attleboro area into the fall. Some have already opened.

Browse and purchase fresh fruits and vegetables grown locally at town squares, town commons, and other public places.

Other farm products, from baked goods, jams and jellies, maple products, honey, cheeses, flowers, herbs, and turkey products and eggs, are also available at the state's 188 farmers' markets - including 28 new ones, according to the Department of Agricultural Resources.

A market in downtown Attleboro at Gilbert Perry Square on Park Street runs Saturdays, 8 a.m. to noon, from July 18 through Oct. 24.

Bateson's Apple Farm of Rehoboth, Chace Farm of Taunton and Jessica's Jellies of Seekonk, Log Cabin Farms of Bellingham and Mello's Farm of Rehoboth will be present. Women, Infants and Children/senior coupons are accepted.

In Mansfield, there is a market Thursdays, 2 to 6 p.m. from July 16 to Sept. 24 at the public parking lot, 80 North Main St. Oakdale Farm of Rehoboth will be represented. WIC/senior coupons accepted.

Over in Rehoboth, the farmer's market runs every Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Oct. 25 at Anawan School, 53 Bay State Road.

Dufort Farms of Rehoboth, Jessica's Jellies of Seekonk, and Oakdale Farm of Rehoboth will be on site. Sponsored by the Rehoboth Agricultural Commission. WIC/senior coupons accepted.

In Franklin, the market is being held Fridays, noon to 6 p.m. through Oct. 30 at the town common. WIC/senior coupons accepted.

And in Taunton, the market operates Thursdays, noon to 5 p.m., July 16 to Oct. 29 at the Town Green. WIC/Senior Coupons accepted.
