ATTLEBORO - The Attleboro Council on Aging will be holding a Yellow Alert Day, which is a driver safety program for senior citizens, from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 20 at the South Attleboro Fire Station, 1476 West St.
In publicizing the event, the council on aging, in a news release, urges drivers to attend.
"Hopefully you have never been in an automobile accident, but if you have or know someone who has, you will appreciate what the Yellow Alert Program is all about," the council on aging said.
"Joining the Yellow Alert Program can save your life. The program consists of a yellow alert card, kept in the glove compartment of the car, that is similar to the file of life. The yellow card contains the driver's medical and health history including a list of medications, allergies etc.
"Frequent passengers of the vehicle may also complete a card. In the event of an accident, a special Yellow Alert sticker on the back windshield of the car alerts the local police and local fire department personnel that the life-saving information is in the glove compartment."
The program is free. Police and fire personnel will be available to assist senior citizens with their card and answer any questions.
In addition, the council on aging advises that a free vehicle accident kit - including accident form, pen, measuring tape, marking crayon and a disposable camera - will be given to the first 15 seniors attending this event.
Call the Larson Senior Center to register at 508-223-2235.
