Letters of thanks

Thanks for help with grad party

To the editor: On Friday June 5, 2009, the first ever Attleboro High School All Night Graduation Celebration was held at the Attleboro YMCA.

The night was a huge success thanks to the efforts of two very special parent volunteers; Erin Crouteau and Donna Long. Erin's tireless planning and coordination of entertainment on a shoestring budget and Donna's relentless pursuit of donations, made for a night to remember for our graduates.

Thank you, Erin and Donna for your hard work on a wonderful event that will, hopefully, become a tradition at AHS for years to come.

Sincerely, Beth Wampler and the AHS Parent Advisory Committee

Attleboro Historic Preservation Society House Tour a huge success

To the editor: The Attleboro Historic Preservation Society is extremely grateful to all who attended the 2009 Historic House Tour. The society is especially appreciative to the homeowners who welcomed the community to tour their homes on June 6:

Ross and Soroya Landers, 366 South Main St.; Sam and Joanne Fera, 432 South Main St.; Sharon Jorde, 695 Tiffany St.; Scott Winkler and Michael Vanhamel, 532 Newport Ave. (Fire Barn); Luke Clarke, 464 Newport Ave.

Special thanks to Joyce Simnett, who at the East Attleborough Academy greeted participants and distributed tickets, brochures and directions; to the owners of Bank Street Hardware who sold advance sale tickets; to Sonny Almeida for hanging our banner over the Park Street Arch; to Gary Demers, Rev. Boyle and Rev. Dore for allowing tourists to park on their grounds; to Lori Reid at Mill Design for updating our banner and our young people at Attleboro High School greenhouse who assembled and donated flower planters for the homeowners; to our former president, Frank Monti, who designed the brochure describing the homes as historically significant to Attleboro; to the Attleboro Cultural Council, who awarded grant funds to the Society for educational programs, including the house tour.

Kudos to members of the society who acted as greeters at the various homes: Len and Irene Yutkins, Rick and Regina Newell, Ted and Joyce Moxham, Jerry and Carol Raposa, Anita Givens, Eve Sharkey, Marie Chicoine, Barbara Hanson, Shirley Hamel, Joan Dion, David Downs, Lee Miller, Dick Potter, and Evelyn Silva.

The society also appreciates the feature articles promoting the tour in The Sun Chronicle and the entire membership, whose mission is to restore the East Attleborough Academy. All proceeds from the tour benefit this ongoing long-term project.

Thank you Community of the Attleboros. Attleboro is a beautiful city with a rich heritage.
