Interim Brennan leader chosen

ATTLEBORO - A Foxboro middle school assistant principal will become interim principal at Brennan Middle School.
Brennan parents received a letter Tuesday from Superintendent Pia Durkin stating that she has selected Karen Saltzman, who has served as the assistant principal at Ahern Middle School in Foxboro for the past five years, to serve in the interim while a new principal is selected.
Douglas Satran, who had served as principal for Brennan for under a year, was fired June 23 - the last day of school.
Durkin said in her letter that she chose Saltzman, who had applied for a vacant position in the school system, after observing her work at Ahern and speaking to Foxboro administrators and parents.
"Karen was described as a well-organized and fair-minded leader and never forgets the needs of children," Durkin said.
"She has built excellent relationships with parents who call her a 'great listener.' "
Parent meetings planned
A Foxboro resident, Saltzman has also served as an acting principal at the Igo Elementary School in Foxboro and attained her national board certification as a middle school teacher during 1996 to 2004, when she taught sixth grade math at Ahern, Durkin said.
Durkin said Saltzman will transition to Brennan during the next several weeks, and will be setting up times for her to meet with parents.
Saltzman will formally be introduced at the Aug. 17 school committee meeting. |
