Here are annual awards given to AHS students

ATTLEBORO - The following students received awards at the annual Attleboro High School Awards Night:

Art awards

Outstanding Senior Visual Arts Students: Elizabeth Bonenfant and Caitlin Hughes; Outstanding Junior Visual Arts Students: Amanda Sharples, Emily Kern, and James Martin; Outstanding Sophomore Visual Arts Student: Zachary Chomyszak; Outstanding Jewelry and Metalsmithing Students: Victoria Birkett and Stacie St. Louis; Outstanding Ceramics Students: Tiffany Cao, Jenna Shellard, Mark Ventura and Margaret Oliver.

Athletic awards

Howard O'Hare Award: Teresa Pelletier and Ryan Cronin.

Book awards

The Colby College Book Prize: Samantha Wood. Awarded to a junior who has shown outstanding academic achievement in the school's most rigorous curriculum and has made substantial contributions to the high school and local community.

The Harvard Prize Book Award: Melanie Thibeault. Given to the outstanding student in the next graduating class who displays excellence in scholarship and high character, combined with achievement in other fields.

The Wellesley College Book Award: Meagan Fuller. Honors a female student in the current junior class whose academic record and character are exceptional and who has also made significant personal contributions to her school and/or the local community.

The Saint Michael's College Book Award for Scholarship and Service: Michelle Peck and Michael Long. Seeks to recognize students who exhibit the characteristics of an ideal St. Michael's student, based specifically on achievement in academics and community service.

The Bay Path College Presidential Book Award: Nicole Sousa. This award is to recognize an outstanding young woman who displays a commitment to academics, an interest in community service, is in the top 15 percent of her class and is currently enrolled in the junior class. In addition to the book itself, if the student chooses to attend Bay Path College, she is guaranteed a scholarship worth $7,000 to $13,000.

The Society of Women Engineers: Tiffany Lee Berard. Offered to a young woman who has demonstrated high achievement in science and mathematics. Award recipients must have completed 3 years of science and 3 years of mathematics with distinction.

The LeMoyne College Heights Award: David Stevens. Recognize a high school junior who is "reaching for the Heights" in the classroom and in service to their school and community.

The Rensselaer Medal: Marie Larouche. Honors the junior who has achieved excellence in an exceptional mathematics and science program. The recipient has demonstrated the potential for success in a science or technology-oriented profession. Each medalist who is accepted and subsequently enrolls at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute receives a scholarship of $15, 000 annually for four years totaling $60,000.

The College of Mount Saint Vincent Book Award and scholarship: David Trauffer. Concerned with the education of the whole person, which includes the life of the heart as well as the life of the mind.

The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution certifies that Teresa Pelletier has been selected as the DAR Good Citizen of Attleboro High School for the current year and having demonstrated the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism, is hereby awarded this DAR Good Citizens Certificate.

Massachusetts Secondary School Administrators

Student Achievement Award: Ashley Balerna

Class Salutatorian: By virtue of his having maintained a Grade Point Average of 101.78, Rachel Cox has been declared the Salutatorian of the Class of 2009. Rachel will be attending Tufts University in the fall majoring in Biology.

Class Valedictorian: By virtue of her having maintained a Grade Point Average of 103.67, the highest in her class, Teresa Pelletier has been declared the Valedictorian of the Class of 2009. Teresa will be attending Barnard College in the fall and enrolled in their Pre-Med course of study.
