ATTLEBORO - Students at three rival high schools are teaming up to help fund the annual Tedesco Christmas Dinner and buy food for local food pantries.
Attleboro, North Attleboro and Bishop Feehan high schools are joining under the banner "1 F.A.N." symbolizing unity of purpose among students at the three schools to conduct two major fundraising events this month, said Ashley Balerna, student council president at Attleboro High School.
Students will be holding a series of quiz contests pitting teams of students in answering academic and general knowledge questions.
The eventual winners in the event, dubbed the "Tri School Challenge," will meet a team comprised of the principals of all three schools. The finals will be held in front of a live audience 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bishop Feehan High School.
The second fundraiser will be a dodgeball tournament 7 p.m. on June 11 at North Attleboro High School featuring teams from all three schools. Tickets to either event can be purchased at the door for $3 or $1 plus the donation of one canned good.
Serving up a merry Christmas
The Tedesco Christmas dinner is an annual event that serves holiday dinners to the needy. The event has been supported by local students.
Students are also looking to raise donations for food pantries that dispense free non-perishable foods to needy families.
Food pantries have been hard hit recently by declines in donations and increased demand because of the recession. |
