REHOBOTH - The driver in a Feb. 19 accident on Interstate 195 has been charged with vehicular homicide by reckless operation and other charges related to the death of a 14-year-old boy.
Lee Brito, 28, of Acushnet, was being held Thursday on $20,000 cash bail at the Bristol County House of Correction.
He was arraigned Tuesday in Taunton District Court.
Brito also faces charges of driving negligently to endanger, failing to drive within marked lanes and speeding, said Gregg Miliote, spokesman for Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter.
State police said Brito was driving west in a 2006 Infinity M35 and veered to avoid a vehicle in front of him, then struck a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Renee Boudreau, 43, of West Warwick, R.I., according to the state police.
The Jeep went out of control, rolled over and came to a stop in the woods off the right side of the highway, state police said.
Killed in the accident was 14-year-old Aaron Boudreau, a passenger in the Jeep.
Three others were injured, including a 2-month-old boy, Giovanni Rotondo, and his 19-year-old mother, Lauren Rotondo.
The mother and child and Renee Boudreau were taken to Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence, where they were treated, then released.
Brito was uninjured in the crash.
Judge Richard D. Savignano continued the case until July 27 for a pre-trial hearing. |
