Obituaries were published for Henry Fortin, 80, of Greenville, S.C.; Walter McKechnie, 85, of North Attleboro; Dorothy L. Thompson, 84, of Peabody; and Jane Maude Annis, 79, of Wrentham.

Henry Fortin, 80

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Henry Fortin, 80, formerly of Norton, Mass., and beloved husband for 58 years of Ann Burns Fortin, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, June 12, 2009.

Born in Pawtucket, R.I., he was a son of the late Romeo and Rosanna Tremblay Fortin.

Mr. Fortin was retired from The Foxboro Co., served in the U.S. Army, and was a lifetime member of ARRL. Surviving are two daughters, Donna Sittig and her husband Richard of Greer, S.C., and Sandra Truslow and her husband Chris of Standish, Maine; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers and three sisters.

Predeceased was one brother.

A memorial Mass will be held today, Tuesday, June 16 at 1 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, Simpsonville, S.C.

The family will receive friends and relatives following the Mass at the home. Cremation Society of South Carolina is serving the family.

Walter McKechnie, 85

NORTH ATTLEBORO - Walter McKechnie, 85, of Reed Avenue, North Attleboro; formerly of Leif Erikson Drive, South Dennis; and Rodney Street, North Attleboro, died on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro after a lengthy illness.

He was the husband of the late Beverly Ann (Adams) McKechnie, to whom he was married in 1947 and who died on June 30, 1990.

Born in Rhode Island on July 14, 1923, he was a son of the late Walter and Ellen (Edwards) McKechnie. He was raised and educated in Plainville where he was a 1941 graduate of Plainville High School, and enjoyed playing on the high school basketball teams and local summer baseball leagues.

Mr. McKechnie served with the former U.S. Army Air Corps during the World War II era.

He was employed as the manager of I.S. Spencer, a foundry company, in Guilford, Conn. and later purchased the business. Following the sale of I.S. Spencer, Mr. McKechnie served as a consultant in the foundry industry. Upon his retirement to the family summer home in South Dennis, he was employed by Stop & Shop Inc.

Mr. McKechnie returned to North Attleboro in November 2007, residing with his daughter. Prior to returning to Massachusetts, he and his family resided in Clinton, Conn. from 1962 to 1981.

Many years ago, he was a member of the Bristol Lodge A.F. & A.M. in North Attleboro and was a member of the Rotary Club and the Benevolent Order of Elks in Connecticut.

He was an ardent golfer.

He leaves three daughters: Rae Ellen Montgomery and her husband Robert Montgomery of North Attleboro, Beth A. McKechnie and her husband Robert Bradley of Franklin, and Sally J. Stone and her husband Gary Stone of Naples, Fla.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister-in-law, Patricia L. Gaudette and her husband Thomas W. Gaudette of North Attleboro; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late John McKechnie and Bessie Barton.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation with veteran's honors on Saturday, June 27 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Ave., Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.

Funeral services with veteran's honors will commence following visitation on Saturday, June 27 at 11 a.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Ave., Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, with the Rev. Carole L. Baker, pastor of Central Congregational Church, Commonwealth Avenue, Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, officiating.

Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.

Following cemetery services, an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. McKechnie's name may be made to the Community Visiting Nurse Agency, 10 Emory Street, Attleboro, MA 02703.

Dorothy L. Thompson, 84

PEABODY - Dorothy L. (Mannix) Thompson, 84, of Peabody died Monday, June 15, 2009 at the Peabody Glen Nursing Home, Peabody after a long illness. She was the wife of Sulo Thompson, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage.

She was born in Salem on Aug. 14, 1924 and was raised and educated there, graduating from Salem High School in 1940. She had resided in Peabody for the past 59 years.

She had been employed at the former J.B. Thomas Hospital in Peabody for 10 years and later at the Lahey Clinic at Northshore in Peabody, also for 10 years prior to her retirement.

She enjoyed going to Beano and helped on the committee at Fairweather Apartments.

She also liked doing crossword puzzles, but what she cherished most was taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren.

Surviving her besides her husband are two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and his wife Yvonne Thompson of North Attleboro, and Brian and his wife Cheryl Thompson of Swampscott; her seven grandchildren: Shawn Thompson of Nantucket, Wendy and her husband Matthew Chaves of Taunton, Stefanie, Kevin and Meghan Thompson, all of North Attleboro, Sarah and Cameron Thompson, both of Swampscott; and many nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Kathleen McKay, Raymond and Robert "Buddy" Mannix.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, June 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St. facility (downtown)

Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a funeral Mass in St. John's Church, Peabody at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.

Jane Maude Annis, 79

WRENTHAM - Jane Maude (Laplante) Annis of Wrentham, where she has lived since 1964, died Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood. She was 79.

Born in Hyde Park, Vt., she was the daughter of the late Ernest J. and Mildred (Musgrove) Laplante, and attended Montpelier High School.

She retired from the Kendall Company in Walpole. She had also worked as a secretary for the Medfield State School and Wrentham State School, a nurse's aide at Norwood Hospital and a chocolate maker at the Chocolate Factory in Mansfield.

Formerly of Vermont, she was an active member of the Original Congregational Church in Wrentham, where she was involved in many acts of service.

She had served as a member of the Diaconate and the church board of trustees, the Wednesday Bible study and the bulletin folder.

She was also a member of the Fern Chapter and Angle Stone Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and the Wrentham Seniors, where she had been an active volunteer driver and assisted at the senior center whenever needed.

She was the loving mother of George A. Annis and his wife Patricia of Calais, Vt., Sheila A. Annis of Millis, James A. Annis of Wrentham, Pearl R. Gottberg and her husband Gerald of Franklin, Thomas W. Annis of Wrentham, and the late Joyce E. Zakalusny and her husband Adrian of Riverdale, Ga. The sister of James A. Laplante of Middlesex, Vt., she is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Karen L. Abbott, Alfred, Faye, Jane, and Sara Annis, Susy, Jeri-Lee, and Erica Gottberg, Heidi Long, and Scott Zakalusny; and three great-grandchildren: Tyler and Taylor Abbott, and Jade Annis.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 18 at 11 a.m. at the Original Congregational Church, on the corner of routes 140 and 1A in Wrentham.

Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the R. J. Ross Funeral Home, 135 South St., Wrentham. Interment will take place on Friday morning at the North Branch Cemetery in Middlesex, Vt.
