John C. Burns III, 64

MANSFIELD - John C. Burns III, 64, of Mansfield died on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington in the presence of his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Stephanie A. (Lambert) Burns who passed away on May 1, 2009. Mr. and Mrs. Burns were wed on June 29, 1968.

Born in Arlington, MA on December 21, 1944 he was a dear son of Catherine (Gillis) Burns of Arlington and the late John C. Burns II.

John grew up in Cambridge and was a 1962 graduate of BC High School. He furthered his studies to obtain his bachelor of science degree in education from Boston College in 1966 and in 1972 received his master in education degree from Boston State University.

Mr. Burns began his teaching career in Norwood and from 1966 to 1998 was a fifth grade school teacher at the Balch School in Norwood.

He was later promoted to principal of the Oldham School in Norwood in 1998 and retired in 2005. John was a firm believer in education and lived by the motto "To teach is to touch a life."

In addition to education John also loved sports. For many years he served as head basketball coach at Millis High School, was a coach for Mansfield Little League, Soccer and Basketball. In 1971 he co-founded the Mansfield Senior League and was also the founder of the former Mansfield Baseball School. John also helped run the Boston College Summer Basketball Camp.

John enjoyed golfing and was a former member of the Norton Country Club.

For many years he taught adult education and driver education both at Millis High School.

A communicant of St. Mary's Church in Mansfield, John's greatest gift in life was his family, he loved being in there presence, especially with his adoring grandchildren who fondly called him "Happy."

A resident of Mansfield for the past 39 years he had formerly resided in Walpole and Cambridge.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his devoted children Christine Burns-Balunas of Mansfield, Shawn C. Burns of Peoria, Arizona, Michelle O'Connor and her husband David of Mansfield and the late Michael J. Burns who passed away on July 2, 1995. He was the brother of Anne Burns of Allston, Kathleen Mayer of Boulder, Colorado, Paul Burns, Michael Burns and Mary Sortino all of Arlington. Also surviving are his cherished grandchildren Shawn Burns, Ashley Balunas, Kayla O'Connor and Kelsey O'Connor all of Mansfield as well as many nieces and nephews.

His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday, June 26 at 8 a.m. from the Sherman & Jackson Funereal Home, 55 North Main St. Mansfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Mansfield.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.

Barbara L. (MacKenzie) Healey, 81

LARGO, Fla. - Barbara L. (MacKenzie) Healey, formerly of Attleboro, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 19th, at her daughter's residence surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was the beloved wife of John (Jack) E. Healey who passed away in 1979.

Mrs. Healey is survived by her daughter Jacquelyn McPherson and her husband, Douglas and their children Sean and Nicholas, of Largo; son Richard of Foxborough, his children Katy and Rebecca and granddaughter Emily of Franklin; son James and his children Blake and Lauren of Inverness FL; son Ronald and his wife Diane and their children Alysia and Matthew of Alvarado TX, Ron's daughters Jessica of Attleboro and Shayna of West Warwick RI; Barbara's best friend Elizabeth (Betty) Niles of Pinellas Park and many nieces and nephews.

Born in Pawtucket in 1928 and raised in Middlesboro, KY, Mrs. Healey was the daughter of Duncan and Catherine (Fitzsimmons) MacKenzie; sister to Mary Ross of Minneapolis, Duncan of Greenville NY and Samuel of Claremont, NH.

When she moved to Florida in 1991, Barbara, Sam, Dunc and his wife Margie were reunited in the Down Yonder mobile park for many years where they shared many activities.

Mrs. Healey attended St. Giles Episcopal Church in Pinellas Park.

Barbara graduated from Middlesboro High School in 1945 and had just recently attended a 62nd reunion with Jackie in 2008. After moving to Pawtucket, she was employed by New England Telephone and there met her husband Jack and they married in 1959.

Barbara had a considerable professional career in Attleboro working as a teacher's aide at the Finberg and Studley schools, as a jewelry assembler at the Balfour Company and as manager for SBLI Insurance at the Attleborough Savings Bank.

In Florida, Barbara worked for 10 years as a job placement agent for AARP in Pinellas Park.

Barbara was an avid fan of "her" Tampa Bay Bucs and Rays.

Barbara leaves a legacy as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend to many. She had a positive influence on all the lives she touched.

A memorial service will be held locally in Florida on June 25 and another service will be held in Attleboro at a future date.

Marie E. (Tanguay) Gousie, 86

ATTLEBORO - Marie E. (Tanguay) Gousie, 86, of Attleboro, formerly of Rehoboth, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2009 at the Life Care Center of Attleboro. She was the loving wife of the late Raoul Gousie.

Marie was born in Central Falls, RI, the daughter of the late Rosario and Marguerite (Roy) Tanguay.

She was employed for several years at the former Forster Metal, and later retired from Leavens Jewelry. Mrs. Gousie was formerly an active participant at the Rehoboth Senior Center, and was a communicant of St. Stephen's Church in Attleboro.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her ten grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.

Marie was especially noted for her quilting, knitting, crocheting and embroidery, and family and friends were the grateful recipients of her many projects.

Survivors are son Paul E. Gousie and his wife Pauline of Rehoboth; son Joseph Robert Gousie of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; daughter Paula Ranley of Fall River, MA; ten grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was sister of the late Ida Lemieux, Parmelia Telford, Jeanne Mitchell, Harvey, Roland and Raymond Tanguay.

Her funeral service will be held on Friday at 9 a.m. from the Foley-Hathaway Funeral Home, 126 S. Main St., Attleboro, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Stephens Church, 683 South Main St., Attleboro. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Walter R. Gervais, 87

US Navy CPO retired

ATTLEBORO - Walter R. Gervais, 87, of Belair Avenue passed away Wednesday June 17, 2009 at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Joyce A. (Medrzychowski) Gervais and the late Dorothy (Hill) Gervais.

Born in Pawtucket he was a son of the late Romeo and Esther (Crompton) Gervais.

He lived in South Attleboro for the past 2 years and was formerly of Rumford, RI, Cape Cod and Vermont.

He retired as a chief petty officer from the U.S. Navy after serving 20 years. He served during WWII and Korea.

Walter was a boxer during WWII in the Navy and placed 25th in the 1946 Boston Marathon.

He was a scuba diver and a fierce competitor in the equestrian world, competing in his last horse event at the age of 81.

After leaving the Navy he was employed by the former Old Colony Bank for 30 years and also worked at the Tamarack Hill Farm in Strafford, VT.

He was a member of the United States Equestrian Association and a life member of the American Military Retirees Association.

Besides his wife he leaves 2 daughters Nancy Moore of East Providence, RI and Robin Kew of North Eastham, MA.

He also leaves 2 stepdaughters Christy Charlesworth of Concord, NH and Leslie Cozzolino of Coral Springs, FL, 1 stepson Darrell Charlesworth of Foxboro, MA, 1 sister Esther LeBlanc of Pawtucket and 1 brother Robert Gervais of Sacramento, CA, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

He was the brother of the late Marion Bedard.

His funeral with military honors was held Monday, June 22, 2009 at the VA National Cemetery Bourne, MA.

Deborah A. (Webb) Jones, 48

WRENTHAM - Deborah A. (Webb) Jones of Wrentham, where she has lived since 2000, died Monday, June 22, 2009 at her home following a courageous battle with ALS. She was 48.

Born in Attleboro, she was the daughter of Donald Webb Sr. of Plainville and the late Elsie M. (Holland) Webb. She was a graduate of Dighton-Rehoboth High School, class of 1980.

Formerly of North Attleboro, she has worked at the Wrentham Developmental Center in Wrentham since 1982 as a supervisor.

An avid softball player, she had played for many teams over the years, and was a devoted family woman and mother. She loved her home, gardening, the outdoors, and homemaking.

The beloved wife of Arthur Jones, whom she married on June 18, 1983, she was the devoted mother of Ryan Jones of Wrentham. She was the sister of Donald Webb Jr. of North Attleboro and JoAnn O'Grady of Attleboro.

She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the RJ Ross Funeral Home, 135 South Street, Route 1A, Wrentham Centre, on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Her funeral service will be celebrated on Friday, June 26, 2009 at 10 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 47 East St., Wrentham. Burial will follow in the Centre Cemetery in Wrentham.

David Mathew Singer, 46

MIDLAND, Texas - David Mathew Singer, 46, of Midland, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009 in Midland, Texas.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel in Midland with the Rev. Bob Porterfield officiating.

David was born July 11, 1962, in Norwood, Massachusetts to Ethel and Norman Singer, Jr. He graduated from King Philip Regional High School in 1980.

He worked for Don-Nan Pump Company. He has lived in Midland since 1988.

Survivors include daughters, Brandi Pisani of North Attleboro, MA and Ashley Guevara of Pawtucket, MA; mother, Ethel Kellarson of Vero Beach, FL; grandchild, Phoenix Pisani; sisters, Linda Singer of Midland, TX, Karen Brauneis of North Attleboro, MA, Norma Buckley of Salt Lake City, Utah and Donna Shugars of Round Hill, VA; brother, Timothy Singer of Franklin, MA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by father, Norman Singer, Jr., brother, Norman Patrick Singer and sisters, Dianne Creclese-Lucie and Maureen Beeby.

Betty A. (Anderson) Gaudet, 79

FOXBORO - Betty A. (Anderson) Gaudet, age 79, died on Sunday, June 21, 2009 at the Maples Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wrentham.

She was the daughter of Eric N. and Anna J. (Rudberg) Anderson.

Betty was born on her family farm in Foxboro on July 27, 1929 and attended Foxboro High School.

She and her husband, former Foxborough Chief of Police John Gaudet were married in Foxboro on December 20, 1950.

Beloved sister of Doris Beach of Onset and the late Mildred Bolduc, Edith Davis, Harold Anderson, Evelyn Glennon, Pricilla Perry and Philip Anderson. Also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a memorial service on Monday, June 29, at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South Street in Foxboro. Interment will follow at Rock Hill Cemetery in Foxboro.
