Top Headlines Eleanor Gambale, 96 MANSFIELD - Eleanor (Melfie) Gambale of Mansfield died Sunday, June 28, 2009 at Caritas Norwood Hospital. She was 96. Born in Mansfield on Sept. 10, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Domenic and Isabella (Falotico) Melfie. A lifelong resident of Mansfield, Mrs. Gambale was a communicant of Saint Mary's Church and a past member of the Catholic Women's Club. Wife of the late Carl Gambale, she is survived by her son, Lewis Gambale and his wife Nancy of Mansfield; and two granddaughters, Rena Lee Gambale of North Attleboro and Maddie Lynn Gambale of Mansfield. Sister of Harry Melfie of North Attleboro, Mary Stevenson of Canton and the late Madeline Garland, Angelina Vicino, Annie Silenzi and Joseph and Frederick Melfie. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Her funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 1 at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Mary's Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106), Mansfield. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday morning prior to the Mass from 8:30 to 10 a.m. in the Bolea-Amici Funeral Home, 115 North Main St., Mansfield. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery. Walter Walas, 66 REHOBOTH - Walter L. Walas, 66, passed away Monday, June 29, 2009. He was the beloved husband of Joan M. (McConaghy) Isabel-Walas. Born in Pawtucket, a son of Irene (Bozek) Walas of Pawtucket and the late Walter A. Walas, he resided in Rehoboth since 1965. Wally was employed by Texas Instruments, Attleboro for 36 years, retiring as a design engineer in 2001. He was a member of the National Street Rod Association and a charter member since 1974 of the Bristol County Street Rod Association, where he had served as president and vice-president for many years. Besides his wife and mother, he leaves a son, Kevin Walas and his wife Lisa; a granddaughter, Emma Walas; a brother, William S. Walas and his wife Sheila; a loving nephew, Michael Walas; and his nieces, Jennifer Manco and Emily Manco, all of Pawtucket. He also leaves four stepchildren: Kim Hunt and her husband Lee of Pawtucket, David Isabel and his wife Deanna of New Jersey, Stephen Isabel and his wife Mary Ilg-Isabel of Bristol, and Gregory Isabel of Wakefield; and five step-grandchildren. His funeral will be held Thursday, July 2 at 11 a.m. from the William W. Tripp Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon in St. Teresa Church, Newport Avenue, Pawtucket. Interment will be at Notre Dame Cemetery. For more information, visit www.trippfuneralhome.com. Raymond LaPlume, 91 VENICE, Fla. - Raymond Roland LaPlume, 91, of Venice, Fla., died on Friday, June 26, 2009. Born on Sept. 11, 1917. Survived by his beloved wife, Mary (Antonino) LaPlume. Loving father of two sons, William R. and his wife Yvonne of Attleboro, and Robert and his wife Nancy of Marietta, Ga.; and one daughter, the late Loraine Trask. Loving grandfather of 12: Greg LaPlume and Emily of Attleboro, Nicole, Daniel and Monique of Plainville, Michelle of New Hampshire, Jeremy of Natick, Andrea and Jeffrey of Georgia, Anthony and Michael Trask of California, and Stephen Trask of Georgia. He also leaves 12 great-grandchildren. He was a communicant of St. John's Church. He was a firefighter for the City of Attleboro. He worked on the first Attleboro Fire Department rescue truck. He retired from the Attleboro Fire Department in 1967. He previously worked for Electric Boat in Connecticut on the Trident Submarine. He was a member of Navy Seabees, the World War II Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Elks and VFW. Private services will be held in Venice, Fla. A private burial will take place at St. John's Cemetery, Attleboro, Mass. Eleanor Sheehan, 91 WRENTHAM - Eleanor M. Sheehan, 91, of Harvard Lane, Wrentham, died on Sunday, June 28, 2009 in the Caritas-Norwood Hospital in Norwood, after a brief illness. She was the beloved widow of John F. Sheehan Sr., who had predeceased her on Jan. 19, 1978. Born in Boston on June 25, 1918, she was the loving daughter of Thomas D. and Mary (Flaherty) Mullin. Raised in Canton, she was a graduate of Canton High School and Bridgewater State College, where she received a degree in early childhood education. Eleanor retired as a library assistant at the Fiske Public Library in Wrentham, where she had worked for many years, and where she is fondly remembered by both staff and patrons alike. An artist who enjoyed painting with watercolors, she was particularly fond of her art group at the Wrentham Senior Center. She had been at one time an active member of the St. Mary's Women's Club, and as a volunteer at the Wrentham Food Pantry. She loved to bake, cook, and sew. There was a time when she had made most of the clothing that was worn by her children. She was famous among those who knew her, for her Parker House rolls, breads, and her congo bars. She enjoyed being creative, and also liked to do floral arranging. When relaxing, she also enjoyed reading a good book. Her children reflected upon her being a wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. She had cherished the relationship that she had with her former neighbors on South Street, Ray and Monica Foulkes. She was the loving and devoted mother of John "Jack" and Pat Sheehan of Jamestown, R.I., Susan and John Foley of Wayland, Mary Lou Wood of Wrentham, Mark and Sharon Sheehan of LasVegas, Nev., the late Jane Sheehan Rampi, Barbara Sheehan Leas and her late husband Michael Leas of Scottsdale, Ariz., Michael Sheehan of North Attleboro, Karen and Michael Mason of Dorchester Lower-Mills, Gregory Sheehan of Franklin, and Moira and her husband Christopher Jones of Washington, D.C. She was the dear grandmother of 14 grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter, the loving aunt of numerous nieces and nephews, and the loving sister of the late Louise Barrett. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Thursday, July 2 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the R.J. Ross Funeral Home, 135 South St., Route 1A, Wrentham Center. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 140 South St., Route 1A, Wrentham Center.
