Robert Joseph Horlbogen, 67

BURLINGTON, N.C. - Mr. Robert Joseph Horlbogen, 67, of 40 Topaz Ridge Court, Gibsonville, N.C., died Friday, June 26, 2009 at the Cherokee Indian Hospital in Cherokee, NC.

A native of Pawtucket, R.I., Mr. Horlbogen was the husband of Elizabeth McKenna Horlbogen, who survives, and the son of the late Gustave Horlbogen and the late Lillian Savoie Horlbogen.

Mr. Horlbogen was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired after 35 years of service with Almacs Supermarkets in Massachusetts. After his retirement, he worked as a salesman for Cityside Subaru in Belmont.

In addition to his wife, Elizabeth, of the home, Mr. Horlbogen is survived by three sons: Michael R. Horlbogen and his wife Sharon Roderick of Burlington, Christopher R. Horlbogen and his wife Kerry of Dedham, Mass. and Andrew G. Horlbogen of Northampton, Mass.; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Joyce Poisson of Warwick, R.I. and Evelyn Peterson of Royalston, Mass.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 8 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church, South Main Street, Woonsocket, R.I.

Loretta A. Burdick

1929-2009

SPRINGFIELD - Loretta Ann (Dowd) Burdick passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, June 29, 2009.

A lifelong resident of Springfield, she was born on March 14, 1929 to the late Grace Marion (Tinkham) Dowd and Cornelius J. Dowd. She attended Holy Name School and graduated from Cathedral High School, where she was an honor student.

She was employed by New England Telephone and Telegraph Company in the accounting department until her marriage in 1952 to the late Arthur "Art" W. Burdick, her best friend and loving partner, who passed away in 1995. In her later years, she was employed at the former Steiger's store in Springfield.

Loretta's family was the focus of her life. In addition to Art, her greatest joys were her son, Philip, her daughter-in-law, Jane (Konieczny), and their children, Daniel Arthur and Marion Grace of North Attleboro, Mass. An active "Nana," Loretta loved time with her grandchildren, especially their sports events where she proudly rang a bell when they scored points. Daniel once wrote of her, "My Nana rocks!"

Loretta was a lifelong ice skater, and she and Art were avid Red Sox fans who traveled to Florida to watch many spring training games for several years. Loretta was also devoted to her extended family.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Gracemary F. Dowd and by her brothers, John H. and Thomas J. Dowd.

In addition to her son and his family, she is survived by her sisters, Catherine C. Burns of Springfield and M. Agnes Dowd of East Longmeadow; 12 of her 13 nieces and nephews; and her 22 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Throughout her life, Loretta contributed her time and talents to various charitable causes, among them were the Mercy Hospital, Loaves and Fishes, and St. Patrick's Parish. She was also a volunteer at election polls.

Loretta was a gracious lady, and a good and spiritual person, who touched many lives for the better. She will be greatly missed and will continue to be much loved.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 6 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at Sampson's Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Road, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, 1900 Allen St., with Rites of Committal and Burial to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, all in Springfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Loretta's memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.

Thomas Joseph Crimmins, 100

MANSFIELD - Thomas Joseph Crimmins, age 100, died on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at his home in Mansfield. He was the son of the late Timothy and Theresa (Crump) Crimmins.

Thomas was born in Boston on Feb. 28, 1909 and was a graduate of Commerce High School in Boston, Class of 1927.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, serving on both the USS Ashville and USS Lexington from 1927 to 1931.

He and his wife Mary were married on Feb. 8, 1941 at Holy Name Church in West Roxbury. He has been a Mansfield resident for the past 15 years.

Tom worked for many years as a postal clerk in Roslindale until his retirement in 1971.

He enjoyed following all of the New England sports teams and loved spending time with his family.

Beloved husband of the late Mary E. (Patten) Crimmins. Loving father of William L. Crimmins and his wife Martha of Westport, Thomas F. Crimmins of Sandwich, David Crimmins and his wife Marie of Foxboro, Philip M. Crimmins and his wife Eileen of Sandwich and Marie L. Allen and her husband Herbert of Sandwich. Brother of Joseph Crimmins of Yarmouthport and the late Bertha and Francis Crimmins. Also survived by 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Monday, July 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South St. in Foxboro.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 330 Pratt St. in Mansfield. Interment will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
