WESTWOOD - After having a seven-game winning streak snapped on Monday, the Foxboro Legion team started a new one of Tuesday night, shutting down District 6 West foe Westwood 8-2 at Xaverian Brothers High School.
Bryan Saffelle pitched four solid innings in the six-inning shortened game, which was called because of darkness. Joe Clagg worked the final to innings to help Foxboro move to 8-2 on the season.
Saffelle allowed one run on five hits and three walks during his stint. Clagg was touched for a solo home run with the score 8-1 but got the final three outs to nail down the win.
Offensively, Billy McGee had a big night at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Jimmy Gilmore was 2-for-4 and Mike Farrell was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Matt Cote added an RBI double, Nick Carafa was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI and Chuck Erickson was on base twice via hit-by-pitch and also had an RBI single.
Foxboro erased a 1-0 deficit with a three-run third, then put things out of reach with three runs in the fifth to make it 7-1.
Post 93, now 8-2, hosts Norwood this evening.
South Attleboro 6, Fairhaven 0ATTLEBORO - Behind the four-hit pitching of Evan Dean, Post 312 won its 17th game of the season.
Dean scattered four hits and five walks in the complete-game shutout. Offensively he got help from Ben Morse, who drove in a run, while Skip Flanagan had two hits and Ryan Cronin stole three bases.
Post 312, now 12-1 in the Zone and 17-3 overall, is back in action this evening against Fall River.
Norfolk 2, Dedham 2 (8 innings)DEDHAM - A two-out rally in the sixth inning helped Post 335 salvage a tie with Dedham in a game called after eight innings due to darkness.
Norfolk trailed 2-0 through the first five innings but put together a little two-out magic in the sixth, Brendon Smith starting things with a single. Connor Richards (2-for-4) followed with an RBI triple to get Norfolk on the board, then Chris Ford's single plated Richards to tie things up.
Dedham scored both of its runs in the bottom of the first inning after back-to-back singles to open the game, then an infield error with the bases loaded led to two unearned runs. But that was it off of Norfolk pitcher Alec Palioca, who was sharp in eight innings of work despite the no-decision.
Palioca, a King Philip product, gave up just two hits after the first inning. He struck out five and didn't walk a batter. It was the second such effort by Palioca this season as he worked seven strong innings against Franklin before getting a no-decision, a game which Franklin won in eight innings.
Norfolk (8-7-1) hosts Westwood this evening, the two teams tied for second place in the District 6 West standings.
