'Survivor'

Chuck Palahniuk injects variety into his novels by using a different writing style for each. "Survivor," a 289-page dark comedy, is no exception. Tender Branson is the last surviving Creedish Church member after a mass suicide wipes out their population. Without notice, he is swept into the media and forced to live a life of lies as a cultural icon directed by his agent. Don't be confused by the first chapter, which is actually the last. There is a method to Palahniuk's madness. Follow Branson as he struggles with his life as a symbol of an extinct religious sect. - Felicia Connolly, Attleboro High School
