"Silent to the Bone," by E.L. Konigsburg
This is an engrossing story of a boy named Branwell Zamborska who is struck silent after his infant sister is put in a coma. Suddenly, suspicion is turned on the strange boy, who only recently took an interest in his sister's diaper changing. Unable to speak, Bran is helped by his best friend Connor, who develops a way to talk to him through a series of flashcards. But rather than telling Connor what happened, he sends him on a series of errands to get the full story (which ends up being a lot more than what he was originally looking for). This book is well-written and suspenseful. Anyone who is interested in mystery stories would really enjoy it. - Amber Thomas, Attleboro High School
