Norton teenagers arrested in alleged trash barrel hi-jinks

Police receive numerous reports of stolen containers
SUN CHRONICLE STAFF

NORTON - Two teenagers accused of trashing neighborhood streets while stealing trash barrels were arrested on Friday after police allegedly found the pair pulling a barrel behind their vehicle on Reservoir Street.

George Gillis, 18, of Norton, whom police say was driving the car, and John Pucci, 18 of Attleboro, who was in the passenger seat, were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct in the incident.

Over the past few weeks, the Norton Police Department has received numerous reports of stolen trash barrels left in roadways throughout the town. In the incidents, streets have been left littered with trash and the barrels have created roadway hazards.

On June 26, a bicyclist was transported to an area hospital after he collided with a barrel discarded on Eddy Street. While on routine patrol Friday, Patrolman David Schepis observed a vehicle pulling a trash barrel down Reservoir Street in the area of Cobb Street. The front-seat passenger, Gillis, allegedly discarded the barrel into the southbound travel lane of Reservoir Street as they passed the police cruiser.

Sgt. Jonathan Goodwin assisted with the investigation.

" sunfan - Maybe you should start the local Taliban chapter or maybe you could be one of the clerics and then the Sun would be able to publish stories with lines like this one "Meanwhile, the semi-official Sun Chronicle News Agency reported that 20 people between the ages of 15 to 21 were executed in Norton on Saturday for "being general idiots."

They should be made to pay for each of the damaged barrels and then have to deliver them to the homeowners face to face. That would be better use of the system then jail time. "

" Punks. Kids like that will never grow a conscience. They should pay for the damages, but they will never stop. "

" P.S. The vehicle they were driving should also be seized and sold by the police. They don't respect anyone else's property but they might be a wee bit upset about someone taking something of theirs. "

" And yet, 18-year-olds claim they're mature enough to drive, drink, and vote. I challenge that, based on the antics of these two juvenile clowns.

Yes, they should be forced to earn and pay restitution for each barrel damaged. A nice couple of years in jail earning 40 cents an hour or whatever it is they can earn, with every penny going for restitution, would be a good start. "

" Most of the kids in Norton are drop outs that's why they have the highest drop out rate around. Idiots and they should be made to pay restitution to the residents effected. "

" These two are a couple of Norton High drop outs. They were notorious for things like this at school. Not surprised they were involved. They aren't just mischievous kids either, they are a couple of heartless deviants. I agree with Dina, make them pay for each new barrel. "

" MAYBE THEY SHOULD MAKE THESE BOYS PAY ALL THE RESIDENTS DOWN THE GROVE REIMBURSEMENT , I KNOW IM ONE AMONG MANY WHO HAD TO PAY TO WASTEMANAGEMENT $75.00 FOR A NEW BARREL. "
