The Attleboro Area Football Hall of Fame, in partnership with the L.G. Balfour Foundation, has awarded a total of $15,000 in scholarships to 15 graduating seniors at Attleboro, Bishop Feehan, and North Attleboro High Schools.

This year's scholarship recipients (along with the colleges they will attend) include North Attleboro High's Kevin Richman (Westfield State), Chris Weeman (Dean College), Josh Keane (Sacred Heart), Mike D'Atillio (Bridgewater State) and Brian Courtney (Texas A&M-Commerce); Bishop Feehan High's Bryan Webb (Wentworth Institute), Dan Tamul (UMass-Dartmouth), Mark Millett (Fitchburg State), Dan Effler (UNH) and Dave Beissner (CCRI); along with Attleboro High's Tyler McCarthy (Coastal Carolina), Nick Manganiello (UMass-Dartmouth), Kevin Papagiris (UMass-Amherst), Nick Mazurkiewicz (Mass. Maritime) and Mike Barry (Endicott).

- Geoff Cameron, the MLS player from Attleboro, is having a fantastic year for the Houston Dynamo. Help out by voting for him to be on the MLS All-Star Game this summer. Go to www.mlsnet.com, then MLS NOW ALL-STAR09 at the top of the page and vote.

- After eight seasons at the helm of the Norton High School softball program, Peter Peloquin has handed in his retirement papers. "I'm retiring from the school system too, and I'm tired - but it's been a lot of fun and a challenge to get the girls to compete at their best every day."

- King Philip High's junior pitching ace Alec Palioca hurled in the Eastern Mass. Coaches Association All-Star game Tuesday in Lynn, notching a pair of ninth-inning strikeouts. Palioca became the first KP Warrior to play in the game since current KP coach and former Warrior shortstop great Ed Moran in 1987.
- From Phil Kiasecki's Hoopville basketball guide, here's what he had to say about Derek Retos, the 5-foot-9 guard from North Attleboro, playing at the Brimmer and May Prep School - "he showed plenty to be optimistic about. For a time, the quantity wasn't there but the quality was as the shots he did make were often from NBA distance, and he was effective scoring in other ways." Retos will be playing at the Mass. Premier Courts Elite 75 Showcase Tournament in July. The New England Recruiting Report stated: "one of the best players in the gym. Retos took advantage of his reputation for being a shot maker by attacking close-outs all day long. He was going by people and then pulling up off the dribble, scoring with floaters, and even finding his teammates for easy buckets."

- Foxboro's Andrew Connolly, the freshman quarterback for the Union College football team (5-4), who completed 91 passes for 1,504 yards and 15 TDs, was the recipient of the Dutchmen's Freshman Prize, the MVP for all rookies in all sports.

- Mansfield High baseball coach Tim Graham was most pleasantly surprised by the performance of junior catcher Dan Gad, a first-year backstopper, who not only was fundamentally sound, but hit at a .460 clip.

- "He's just one of those kids that you love to have around on the team, maybe not the most talented kid, but who always competes hard," said North Attleboro High boys' tennis coach Sean Mulkerrins of Rocketeer senior captain Greg Reddington.

- Get well wishes are in order for Foxboro High lacrosse coach Matt Noone.

- Mansfield High boys' lacrosse coach Tim Frias loses just three seniors from this season's Hornet squad, which won three of its last four matches to qualify for the MIAA Tournament. "Considering who we have back (including leading scorer Ryan Murphy), we'll be stacked!"

- Attleboro High junior Derek Goulet, playing at the No. 2 singles spot, was an Old Colony League all-star, posting a 12-5 record. "The coaches were impressed that he was beating people that they considered decent players," said AHS coach Russ Severs.

- Bishop Feehan High softball coach Gary Warren has two key remnants from his Shamrock team which posted 15 wins this season back for two more seasons, sophomore outfielders Tiffany Agostini (.540 batting average) and Ali Ferreira (20 runs batted in).

- One of the pleasant surprises for Gary Miller's Seekonk High softball team was Jody Halliday, the Warriors' leadoff batter who had a .397 batting average, a .522 on-base percentage (with 23 hits) and scored 18 runs.

- "That'll be a real shining team," related Dighton-Rehoboth High girls' tennis coach Ray Kaiser of his doubles tandem of freshman soccer star Suzie Newman and junior Jessica Childs, who combined for a 7-2 slate at the Nos. 1 and 2 spots. He'll likely keep them together as he loses just No. 1 singles player Kelsey Nokes to graduation.
