Merchants, YMCA team up to create one-mile and two-mile walking loops
NORTH ATTLEBORO - Storefronts won't have the only signs downtown - they'll also point the way along a new walking loop soon to be added along streets in the business district.

In a joint effort between the Downtown Associates of North Attleboro and the Hockomock Area YMCA, two walking loop options - a one-mile route and a two-mile route - will be created. Funding for the endeavor was provided through at Stop & Shop Shape Up! minigrant.

"We're excited," said Kerry Vigorito of Downtown Associates of North Attleboro. "It's a great opportunity to promote a healthy lifestyle and the downtown businesses."

Vigorito said the path will begin at the municipal parking lot on Church Street and wind its way past downtown stores. Walkers will be able to follow signs or pick up a brochure that lays out the route.

The walking path will include checkpoints for stretching, pulse checking and other simple exercises in an effort to promote a healthy lifestyle.
While visitors can walk the loop at any time, downtown merchants will host specials and promotions on Wednesdays for visitors walking the loop as part of Walking Wednesdays, Vigorito said.

A ribbon-cutting for the walking path will be held at 6 p.m. on July 28 to coincide with the Downtown Block Party. The raindate for the block party is July 30.
