Swindells throws no-hitter for Post 93
NORWOOD - Mansfield High product Joey Swindells no-hit Norwood to give Foxboro American Legion Post 93 its first victory of the season, 6-0 Monday night.
Swindells struck out nine and walked three while not allowing a runner past second base. From the second inning on, Swindells retired nine in a row before allowing a walk, then sat down the next five batters.
Offensively for Foxboro (1-1), Billy McGee delivered a three-run homer in the third inning while Nick Thrasher added an RBI-single in the frame. Post 93 scored its other two runs in the second inning as Chuck Erickson doubled and eventually scored on an error and another run came around on a passed ball.
Foxboro is at Needham tonight.
South Attleboro 6, Seekonk 0
ATTLEBORO - The South Attleboro Legion baseball team continued its undefeated season with a victory over Zone 9 foe Seekonk.
Bishop Feehan product Sam Dodge was right at home pitching off the Beach Field mound as he handcuffed Seekonk through six innings, striking out seven. The closest Post 311 came to scoring was in the sixth inning, but right fielder Ryan Cronin threw a runner out at the plate trying to score from second base.
Dodge pitched six shutout innings for his second win of the season and Lucas Gagne came on for a 1-2-3 seventh. Post 312 has gone through a string of strong starts of late, allowing just one run in its last three games.
Offensively, South Attleboro got solo home runs from Dodge in the third inning and Matt Boulter in the fifth.
At 4-0 in Zone 9 and 8-0 overall, South Attleboro is off today but back in action at Taunton on Wednesday.
Westwood 8, Norfolk 3
WESTWOOD - Norfolk was held to five hits in a loss to Westwood.
After leading 3-0 through the first five innings, Norfolk saw Westwood push across six runs in the fifth.
For Norfolk, Alec Palioca went 2-for-4 with two RBI while Connor Richards was 1-for-3 with the other RBI. Norfolk is at Canton on Wednesday.
JUNIOR LEGION
Fall River 5, South Attleboro 0
FALL RIVER - Apponequet High freshman Dan Depippo completely dominated South Attleboro, allowing just two hits and three walks while striking out 17 batters to hand Post 495 its first loss of the season.
Depippo retired the side in order in the first, second, fifth and seventh innings.
Marques Maynard and Brandon Cole had South Attleboro's only hits. South Attleboro (5-1, 4-1) entertains Berkley on Wednesday. |
