SA ups record to 9-0
TAUNTON - Evan Dean pitched a three-hitter, striking out 11, as the unbeaten South Attleboro American Legion Post 312 routed host Taunton, 17-1, in a game called after five innings because of the mercy rule.
Designated-hitter Sam Dodge led the offensive explosion with four hits, including as double and a triple, while Matt Boulter had three hits, including two doubles. South Attleboro (9-0) entertains Westport tonight.
Foxboro 4, Needham 1
FOXBORO - Mike Farrell clubbed a solo home run to give Post 93 an early lead as Foxboro beat Needham for the second time in two days.
Farrell pulled a ball over the left field fence to lead off the third inning in support of Mansfield product Tom Savageau, who got the win on the mound. Savageau went 41/3 on the mound before getting hit by a line drive. Foxboro High product Matt Cote came in for relief, going 22/3 in relief, his only blemish coming in a solo home run surrendered in the sixth inning.
Foxboro, 3-1, travels to Westwood this evening.
Norfolk 4, Canton 3
CANTON - Connor Richards led off the game with a solo home run and finished the day with three RBI as Norfolk closed to within a game of first place Norwood.
Greg Davey got the win, going five innings and giving up three runs to improve to 3-0. Mike Arthur pitched the last two innings to pick up the save.
Davey led off the second inning with a single and scored before Kevin Pimental delivered an RBI double later in the inning. Richards walked with the bases loaded to pick up his second RBI and brought in the game-winning run in the fourth on a fielder's choice.
Norfolk, now 6-3, plays Friday at Dedham.
Norton 8, Acushnet 4
ACUSHNET - Down to its final out, the Norton legion team rallied for six runs to overtake Acushnet and move over the .500 mark for the season.
Devin Askew delivered the key hit, roping a bases-loaded, two-out triple to right-center to clear the bases and turn a 4-2 deficit into a 5-4 lead. Jonathan Palmer followed with a double to score Askew and Dakota Rabbit hit a triple to score Palmer. Rabbit scored on an error to cap the scoring.
A.J. Bashaw got the win on the mound, throwing six innings and allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out six. Nick Salvo closed out the victory for Norton (3-2) which travels to Seekonk today.
JUNIOR LEGION
Berkley 9, North Attleboro 5
APPONEQUET - North rallied to tie the game in the sixth inning, but Berkley responded with four runs in the bottom of the sixth before recording an out to drop North to 4-2 in division play and 5-2 overall.
Down 5-3 going into the sixth, Garrett Briggs led off the inning with a hit-by-pitch and scored on a Kevin McKenzie double, McKenzie came around to score later in the inning before Berkley took the lead for good in the bottom half.
North had seven hits as a team and travels to Pembroke tonight. |
