Post 93 rallies

FOXBORO - With just three hits going into the sixth inning Thursday, the Foxboro Legion baseball team was in trouble, down 2-0 with just six outs left.

But Post 93 strung together four straight extra-base hits, capped by a go-ahead two-run home run by Chuck Erickson as Foxboro won its fifth straight game, defeating Canton 4-2.

With one out Jimmy Gilmore atoned for an error in the top half of the frame that led to a run by smoking a triple to to centerfield, ending a streak of nine consecutive outs by Foxboro. John Garabedian followed by roping a double to right field on the first pitch he saw to score Gilmore and cut the Canton lead in half, chasing starting pitcher Dave Roberto.

New pitcher Rob McCarty faired no better. On a 1-0 pitch Nick Thrasher ripped a double to left-center to tie the game and Erickson followed with the game-winner as the lefty pulled a low pitch over the right field fence for his fourth home run of the season.

Tom Savageau pitched well for Post 93, surrendering two runs (one earned) over five plus innings. Joe Clagg came on in relief in the sixth with runners on first and second, allowing one inherited runner to score on an error. With two outs Clagg let up a single up the middle with a runner on second but Garabedian threw the runner out at the plate with a perfect throw from centerfield to end the inning.

Clagg then worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning to pick up the win.

Foxboro, 5-1, plays today at home against Medfield.

South Attleboro 10, Easton 2

ATTLEBORO - Evan Dean pitched lights-out for Post 312, going five innings, striking out four and giving up just two hits and two unearned runs. With an eight-run lead, Luke Gagne came in to close out the win, fanning three and giving up just one hit.

With two outs in the second inning, Billy Karalis ripped a two-RBI double, giving South Attleboro its fifth and sixth runs, a pace with which Easton simply could not keep up.

South Attleboro plays today in the South Kingston Rhode Island Tournament against South Portland, Maine.

North Attleboro 5, Seekonk 2

NORTH ATTLEBORO - It was an old-school pitchers' duel at North Attleboro High School last night, as North Attleboro's Garret Briggs got the best of Seekonk's Ryan Silva.

Briggs threw a complete-game win, allowing two runs and three hits, while fanning a staggering 10 batters, including the final three in the seventh.

Meanwhile, Silva started strong, throwing a no-hitter through four innings. He went on to throw six strikeouts.

North got things going in the fifth with a Kevin Mckenzie double. He advanced to third with a Chris Milne sacrifice bunt and a fielder's choice by Eric Perry, tying the ballgame at one.

Derek Burns hit a double to left to start things off in the sixth. He advanced home after a clutch bunt by Aiden Desrosiers. And with the bases loaded, it was Mckenzie again, hitting a base hit to drive in the eventual game-winning run.

North is now 6-2 in the division and 7-2 overall. They play Marshfield this Sunday at one.
