NORTH ATTLEBORO - North Attleboro Electric is surging forward in its final push to complete an almost four-decade upgrade that will improve its distribution system's reliability and capacity.
The project to upgrade the four-kilovolt portion of its system to 13.8 kilovolts has been phased in - with work stretching back almost 40 years.
However, the department is now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, as it plans to complete the final work in a $1.3 million project.
General Manager James Moynihan said the project will be put out to bid this month, and a contract should be signed by mid-August.
Most of the work will be in the north end of town, with personnel initially concentrating efforts in the Arnold Road area.
"We will be utilizing our outstanding North Attleboro Electric Department line personnel and contractors. We will also benefit from the support of Verizon," Moynihan said. "We anticipate work being done by contractor forces."
The final effort to complete the conversion is expected to take two years.
"The project has been the focal point for the department's capital planning efforts for the past year - with special appreciation for their efforts to the Operations Manager Gene Allen, System Engineers John Miller and Ann Langille and our Distribution Foreman Robert Bukin," Moynihan said. |
