Blood drive in North to honor Samantha

NORTH ATTLEBORO - The second annual blood drive sponsored by NaturaLawn of America will be held Tuesday, July 14 in honor of 11-year old Samantha Fitzpatrick of North Attleboro and will benefit close to 100 children at Boston Children's Hospital.

The event will be held at noon at Briggs Nursery, located at 295 Kelley Blvd., and organizers hope to attract around 50 donors. Last year's event saw 29 donors, most of whom were NaturaLawn of America and Briggs Nursery employees.

"Our goal this year is to beat last year's total of 24 pints," said Adam Noble, the company's spokesperson.

The initial force behind the drive was to help children such as Samantha Fitzpatrick, a member of the Briggs family, who was diagnosed more than a year ago with leukemia, and has been the recipient of blood donations herself.

"We saw some success with our drive last year, and we decided as an organization that we wanted to have another drive in honor of Samantha and the many other children like her, who need all the help they can get," said Noble.
