MANSFIELD - A canopy overlooking the town's gasoline pumps at the department of public works was damaged Tuesday when an employee accidently hit it with a town truck.
The canopy, which resembles structures covering commercial gas pumps, was extensively damaged and needed to be removed, acting Town Manager Nick Riccio said. He said the town is working with its insurance company to determine the cost of the damage.
No one was injured in the accident and the gas tanks were not affected, he said.
"It could have been a lot worse," he said.
The town's gas tanks are not being used, following the accident, and town vehicles are being rerouted to a private gas station. Riccio said he hopes to have the pumps operational again by next week.
Last year, Foxboro was stuck with a $55,000 bill to repair its highway garage after a front-end loader struck a steel support beam in an accident last December. |
