ATTLEBORO -- Carly Laverty is a fighter.
Diagnosed with mesenchymal chondrosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, at age 4, Carly, now 11, beat the disease.
But she hasn't given up the fight.
Now, she's working to spread awareness of the disease and empower others who suffer from the illness she once had.
Carly, an Attleboro resident, performed with big-name celebrities, including Julia Roberts, Robert Redford and Jerry Seinfeld June 8 at the Lincoln Center in New York City.
The event was a benefit for Camp Hole in the Wall, a no-fee camp for youths with cancer and rare blood diseases.
Five boys and five girls are chosen each year by members of The Hole in the Wall Camp to attend special events, and Carly was chosen to participate this year.
She is no stranger to the limelight.
She also performed alongside Bette Midler and Alec Baldwin at The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Ashford, Conn., a month before founder Paul Newman died in 2008.
Her grandmother Jane Olsen will host a Sarcoma Awareness Day from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 15 at 3 Amber Lane in Attleboro.
The event is for local residents who suffer from bone cancer and is free of charge.
There will be games for kids, guest speakers for adults, food and soft drinks.
Sarcoma information will be available, along with bracelets and T-shirts.
