Foxboro town manager would like to stay on 2-3 years
Town Manager Andrew Gala, who celebrated his 65th birthday Monday, said he is unsure when he will retire.
He confirmed, however, his interest in negotiating a two- or three-year extension to his contract, which will expire on June 30, 2010.
Gala said he and his wife, Susan, a special needs administrator with Ashland schools, will make their retirement decisions together.
A 29-year town leader, Gala said he sees no need to jump into contract talks at this time. Based on experience, he said he anticipates that his contract discussion with selectmen will move swiftly and amicably.
"I'm not in a rush," he said. "I know there's time to do it."
In Gala's absence, but with his knowledge, the board voted last week to offer to enter into negotiations for up to a three-year contract.
Gala served as town administrator for 24 years, followed by five years as town manager.
