Warmth attracts crowds, golfers

With the return of the sun this week, area residents are finally venturing out, taking advantage of it every way they can.
Nowhere was that more apparent than area golf courses.
A few weeks ago, Chemawa Golf Course in North Attleboro was all but empty.
But with Tuesday's sunny 81 degree afternoon, it was a different story.
A group of golfers strolled in the parking lot following their game, prolonging their time outdoors. Even more golfers were still out on the course.
"There are a lot less cancellations," said Karen Barnabe in the club house.
"It's hard to guess the number of cancellations we'd had," Barnabe said of the weeks of cool, rainy weather.
If it rained early in the day, only the morning leagues would cancel, she said, while afternoon storms would take their toll on the night leagues.
The course sees about 45 leagues a week now that the sun has come out.
June, which had a record 24 rainy days, saw more cancellations than not.
"People come crawling out of the woodwork when the sun comes out," Barnabe said.
