GOBIS: Prinos taking game on the road

Foxboro High standout Alana Prinos, the MIAA South Sectional Singles Tennis Champion and a Warrior sophomore, was selected to represent New England in the USTA Level Two Intersectional Tournament July 28-Aug. 2 in St. Louis.

Prinos played in the New England Clay Court Championships this week in Beverly in the 16-under division. Prinos also played in the New England Sectional Championships at Yale, won two matches and lost the third in a third-set tiebreaker.

The tourney in St. Louis draws teams from throughout the country, competing at the second highest level. Following that, Prinos travels to Purdue University Aug. 3-7 for the USTA National Girls 16-under Championships, then the New England Hardcourt Championships in Hartford ...

At the USA Track and Field Association's National Championship Meet in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, North Attleboro's Ken Effler took third place in the men's 55-59 division pentathlon with a score of 2,810. Effler long jumped 14 feet, 9 inches, threw the javelin 122-11 and discus 104-5, while running the 1,500 in 6:47 and the 200 in 29.51 seconds. At the Twilight Throwers Meet, North Attleboro High's Kevin Peter won the high school division with a score of 2,909 based upon throws of 47 pounds (weight event), 51-11 (shot put), 150-10 (discus), 110-4 (javelin) and 74-6 (hammer). Effler won the Masters Division with a 3,005 point total, having throws of 84-9 (hammer), 34-2 (shot put), 102-4 (discus), 134-seven javelin and 37-1 (weight throw) ...

North Attleboro's Jim Hardy notched his 2,000th harness racing win as a driver over the weekend at Rockingham Park ...

Kevin Fisher, the No. 1 singles player for the Norton High boys' tennis team, and doubles player Sean Keating will be co-captains for the 2010 Lancer team. Alex Dorsey, a member of the No. 1 doubles team, received the Lancers' Most Improved award ...
