Democrat plans to start rep campaign
Top Headlines North's Matt Trowbridge will announce next week
NORTH ATTLEBORO - Like a lot of candidates for office, Matt Trowbridge says he can identify with laid-off workers, but in his case, he really means it.Trowbridge says he has been laid off from two jobs in the past 1 1/2 years, so he knows how it feels to struggle to make ends meet. The need to improve the economy and attract jobs and businesses to Massachusetts and the local areas is one of the reasons he says he is running for state representative. "I want to do something about unemployment at a higher level," the 23-year-old Democrat said. "We need to entice industry and business to expand their businesses in our district." Trowbridge will formally announce his intention next week to run against state Rep. Betty Poirier, R-North Attleboro. He said he will campaign on a theme of the district's need for a representative who is willing to work with all sides, rather than rely on excessive partisanship. "Party lines need to be crossed," he said. Currently working in a temporary job as a data base administrator, Trowbridge said support "has been coming out of the woodwork" for his campaign. All of Trowbridge's e-mail messages have a quote from the late President Lyndon Johnson that states: "The American city should be a collection of communities where every member has a right to belong. This is what man sought at the dawn of civilization. It is what we seek today." He said he uses the quote because it sums up his political philosophy. He said communities are more than towns where people live. They are places where people come together to work toward improving the place where they live. "A community is so much more than a group of people who happen to live in the same town," he said. His announcement will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 22 at Box Seats restaurant at Tower Square on Route 1. JIM HAND covers politics for The Sun Chronicle. He can be reached at 508-236-0399 or at jhand@thesunchronicle.com.

What this state needs is people in gov't who have life experiences, who do not need to live off a govt pension, who aren't in it for the political career aspirations.
We need more independent/Republicans in office for the sole cause to BALANCE the legislature, to control the Animal House that bleeds the almighty dollar from every legal working citizen in this state to give to their cronies as well as those who leech off society.
A vote for Matt Trowbridge is a vote for MORE OF THE SAME in this state government. If you're disgusted with the direction MA is headed, then surely Matt Trowbridge is NOT your choice. "

I have issues with the republican party just like I have issues with the DUMBocrat party!
I think you're just jealous of the fact that I have the guts to tell it like it is...AND YOU DON'T!!!!!!
All you ever do here is cry like a baby and gutlessly and viciously attack anyone who doesn't think EXACTLY LIKE YOU!!!!!
Oh well....YOUR LOSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And Anna...you're right...we need fewer DUMBocrats...and more REAL Independents :D "

American cities used to be very effective communities where everybody lent a hand to those who needed it. Then the liberal ideology took over and started cracking up the communities in order to have everyone dependent on government. The mess in the inner cities is directly attributable to Democrats. We need fewer of them, not more. "

This maybe the right time to drop Betty before she decides to retire and pass the seat to another Poirier.? We need change up and down the the aisle and we need it now. Also consider dumping Frank he really needs to go. Enough said!! "

Why don't you tell us all about what they have and have not accomplished during their careers? We're all ears. "
Paul Couturier wrote on Oct 14, 2009 3:39 PM:
You must be an Independent like me!
I'm not a republican, but like you I often wonder why the Betty haters won't ever run against her. After all, if she's as bad as they claim she is....then WHY did the Betty haters allow her to run for reelection last year...UNOPPOSED???????????????????? "

While its fine to say he wants to do somenthing about umemployment "at a high level" (ewhat ever that means) so does everyone else) he is short on specifics.
One way to attract business to our area is to reduce taxes and create incentives for businesses to come here. Make it easier for them to do business. Cut the fat from state govenment and consolidate and regionalize the provision of services in some areas like fire, police .
What we need to do is bring more balance to the legislature and elect more independents and republicans. NOT more of the same. "

That being said -- 23 is young but I'll listen to ideas.
As a Republican he would have to work twice as hard to get my vote. "
