VOLLEYBALL: North, D-R qualify for MIAA Tournament

MANSFIELD - The North Attleboro High volleyball team not only stretched its unbeaten streak to nine matches, but also qualified for the MIAA Tournament in doing so. The Rocketeers came away from the Albertini Gymnasium with a 3-1 victory over Mansfield Wednesday, beating the Hornets 25-20, 15-25, 25-13, 25-16.
"It wasn't pretty for us," said North coach Lorraine Weymouth of her Rocketeers, who after losing the second game, took control with early leads in the third and fourth games.
Rachel Gould (15 digs) and Kate Boiseau (11 service points, 10 kills) paced North, while Jen Perkins had nine kills and five blocks. North was able to take control in the fourth game as Kelsey Weymouth had eight service points with two aces.
The Hornets (4-6) were able to throw a scare into North by winning the second game as Kate Campbell accounted for five straight service points to give Mansfield the lead. She closed out the game with three service points.
Campbell also had 20 digs for Mansfield, while Michaela Herman (14 digs) and Mollie Williamson (14 assists, four blocks) also fared well. The Rocketeers host Franklin Friday, while Mansfield visits Canton.

Dighton-Rehoboth 3, Seekonk 0
SEEKONK - It didn't take long for the Falcons to qualify for the postseason for the first time in six years, D-R cruising past rival Seekonk in three games to clinch a postseason berth just 13 games into the year.
The Falcons won a tight first game 25-22 then took the next two with relative ease, winning the second game 25-16 and the third 25-17.
Giana Mainella went on a nine-point run on the service line for the Falcons in the second game to help D-R put the game away. Nicole Hanson had eight kills from her outside hitter position, setter Sadie Gosselin had 14 assists and Robyn Catarius added six kills.
Seekonk's Katie Halpin had four aces, five digs and nine kills in a losing effort, while Madison Burke had five aces, three digs and 10 assists for the Warriors.
Seekonk is (5-7, 4-7 SCC) play Monday home against Somerset
D-R (10-3, 8-3 SCC) has a week off to enjoy their postseason berth, playing again next Thursday at Mansfield.
Sharon 3, Foxboro 0
SHARON - The Warriors battled the Eagles on even terms through the first two games, but couldn't sustain an offensive run to put them over the top in losing 25-21, 25-20, 25-13. Courtney Stopa and Katie Burke played well for the Warriors (1-9, 0-9), who next host Oliver Ames Friday.
Canton 3, King Philip 0
WRENTHAM - Jen Robillard created 14 service points and 18 assists, but the King Philip Warriors fell 25-23, 25-20, 25-14 to Canton in the Hockomock League match. Cara Daly (10 digs, nine service points), Tori Mosolgo (nine kills) and Bri Souza (15 digs) also played well for KP (2-7), which has a non-league match today with Holliston.
