ATTLEBORO - Two shoplifting suspects were caught by police after a 45- minute chase through the streets and woods of South Attleboro Friday, resulting in an officer being injured and the lockdown of Hill Roberts Elementary School.
One of the suspects, Brianna Lindsey, 17, of Rhode Island, and who has no permanent address, was nabbed after a violent tussle at a nearby pitch and putt on Newport Avenue (Route 1A), police said.
The second suspect, Charles K. Freeman, 19, of Providence, fled into the woods and was finally cornered in the American Legion Post 312 on Newport Avenue, police said. Freeman was taken into custody without a struggle in the bar area of the Legion Hall.
Police began the chase about 1:30 p.m. after responding to a report of a shoplifting at Burlington Coat Factory at South Attleboro Square off Route 1.
"They were carrying a trash bag full of stuff," Sgt. Brian Witherell said of the suspects.
The suspects were confronted by a store security employee, who was pushed to the ground by Lindsey. Witherell said. The employee wasn't injured.
The suspects ran through the shopping center parking lot and to the Atlantic Golf Centers on Newport Avenue, where police caught Lindsey after a struggle. Police said she kicked, scratched and bit Patrolman Yuri Bukhenik, who was later taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro for treatment and released. Lindsey later damaged a police cruiser, police said.
Freeman continued to run through woods and past the school, forcing the lockdown. He then ran to the American Legion, where Freeman ran into a man walking by and asked him to use his cell phone, but the man declined and called 911, police said. Freeman then entered the American Legion, where he was arrested.
Lindsey was charged with two counts of assault and battery, larceny over $250 - a felony, resisting arrest, being disorderly, disturbance, defacing property and unarmed robbery.
Freeman was charged with being disorderly, disturbance, resisting arrest, larceny over $250, and unarmed robbery.
The two suspects are expected to be arraigned Monday in Attleboro District Court.
The incident is being investigated by Bukhenik and fellow Patrolmen Robert Miller and Carl Williams as well as Capt. Kyle Heagney, Sgt. John Parkinson, and Sgt. James MacDonald.

The Officer had to try to fight her while looking over his shoul;der to make sure he did not get ambushed by the other guy.
Good attitude though. I hope you get victimized. Be sure to let the Police know it is you and they will be sure to weigh the value of your property and respond proportionately with man hours equaling no more than the value of your junk. "
