Take part in events with Foxboro seniors

FOXBORO - The Foxboro Council on Aging, 75 Central St., is planning the following events. For more information or to sign up, call the senior center at 508-543-1252.

Stonehill College history professor Gary Hylander will present a series of free lectures on labor strikes in the United States. The first lecture, which is on the Haymarket Square riot of 1886, will be held Oct. 29 at 11:15 a.m. Subsequent lectures will be held Nov. 5.

The Friends of Foxboro Seniors will be holding their annual apple pie fundraiser on Nov. 6. The pies cost $9 each and must be paid for by Oct. 30 and picked up between noon and 3 p.m. on Nov. 6. Call the center to place an order. If you would like to volunteer and help with the pie-making, be at the center on Nov. 6 at 8:30 a.m. and bring an apple peeler, a paring knife, a rolling pin and apron with you.

Sign up for a holiday luncheon at Benjamin's restaurant in Taunton on Dec. 3 at 12:30 p.m. Transportation will leave St. Mary's Church parking lot at noon. Cost is $20, due on Nov. 13. Shopping Trips: Shaw's on Mondays at 1 and 1:30 p.m.; Stop & Shop on Fridays at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesdays at 1 p.m.; Oct. 28 Luncheon Outing at Hearth 'n Kettle.Trips: Nov. 19 - Cabaret Lulu, Groton, Conn.

Foxfield Taxi will be available for transportation to Boston for medical appointments between 9 a.m. and noon Mondays and Wednesdays. Suggested donation is $25. It will be available to travel to Foxboro, Attleboro and Mansfield medical appointments from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Thursdays. Suggested donation is $10. To reserve a ride, call Foxfield Transportation at 1-800-585-8294.

F.I.S.H.: FISH is a nonprofit organization with volunteer drivers who bring Foxboro seniors to medical appointments within an 11-mile radius. To request transportation, call 508-698-3729 and leave your name, address, telephone number, appointment date and time. Provide two days advance notice. You will be called the evening before your appointment to confirm your ride.

GATRA Miles For Health: This program is strictly for medical transportation. Monday through Friday, clients will go to Boston hospitals, but Wednesdays, they will go to surrounding cities. Suggested donation is $10. A 48-hour advance notice is required. 1-800-585-8294 or gatra.org.

Wii Bowling Tournament: Fri., Oct. 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Practice at the senior center Friday mornings at 11:00. Call 1-508-543-1252 by Fri., Oct. 9 to confirm your attendance.



Learn yoga, belly dancing in Foxboro


FOXBORO - Weekly yoga and belly dancing classes are offered at Foxborough Universalist Church, 6 Bird St., with longtime belly dancer and certified Kundalini Yoga instructor Sumora/Devta Kaur.

Classes for beginner and advanced beginner/intermediate belly dancers are offered Monday nights. Kundalini yoga and meditation class is offered Tuesday nights.

FOXBORO - The Foxboro Rotary Club will collect gently used coats, footwear and clothing for the Foxboro Discretionary Fund. Hats and gloves must be new due to health reasons.

Drop off items at 6 Washburn Drive, or contact Guy or Cheryl at 508-698-8993 or cnightingale@remax.net to have a donation picked up. Place all clothing in plastic bags for pick up or delivery.

Art school seeks seniors for study


FOXBORO - A UMass study to determine the benefits of art on mind, body and memory is starting in January at Hunakai Studio School of Fine Art.

Over 60 candidates with an interest in art, even those who don't have a focused area of study in mind, are encouraged to participate. Full and partial scholarships are available; call 508-543-5665 or e-mail classes@hunakaistudio.org
