RI driver charged in North road rage

Police say woman struck another with a bat during Halloween confrontation in Walmart lot
NORTH ATTLEBORO - Police say a 29-year-old woman is suspected of striking another woman with a baseball bat during a fit of road rage over the weekend before she was injured herself when a vehicle collided with hers in the parking lot of Walmart.

Mayling Rodriguez, 29, of 24 Pine St., Apt., 1 in Pawtucket, was scheduled to be arraigned on assault and related charges Nov. 13 in Attleboro District Court, police said.

She was arrested by officers Christopher Roy and David Cullen around 1 p.m. Saturday after police received a call about a disturbance in the parking lot of Walmart on Route 1.

Witnesses told police Rodriguez was involved in a verbal altercation in the parking lot before she got out of her car and struck the woman, a 27-year-old Pawtucket resident, with an aluminum baseball bat.

The alleged victim told police she was struck in the left arm and abdomen, but declined to be taken to a hospital. The alleged victim tried to defend herself with a spray can of Halloween hair coloring, according to police.

After the alleged assault, Rodriguez was pinned between the two cars when a third vehicle that was not involved in the altercation struck one of the vehicles, police said.

Rodriguez complained of a hip injury, but declined to be taken to a hospital, police said.

She faces charges of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, driving to endanger, being disorderly and disturbing the peace, police said.

" Yes I think English is the minority spoken language at Walmart! Except for the high-end managers that keep an eye on anyone that mentions workers unions! "

" I wouldn't want to hear anyone screaming at their bratty kids in English either. But I don't when I'm in Walmart. I don't care what you think of me. "

" Sorry attle. No matter how you spin it your comments are racist. What does it matter what language is being spoken? Apparently, it means everything to people like you... racists. "

" The Walmart thing wasn't road rage...the first poster is correct. This is the type of scumbag that goes to Walmart and sorry, not racist...they DON'T SPEAK ENGLISH. Which is fine. Other languages can be quite lovely but not when they are screaming at their kids that are running around crazy in the store. Never seems to be English I hear being screamed from one end of Walmart to the other....I avoid the store because of the type of people that go there. Right across the street at Target is a completely different story. Go there instead if you want to hang onto your sanity. I wouldn't go near the new place without lots of valium. "

" Its comforting to see that finally people who wear bras are getting noticed and blamed for road rage! I see more women putting on make-up, using the phone or better yet texting on it. Driving up and down RT95 everyday for over 12yrs you see alot. Predominately women who should take a second look at themselves while driving if that is what they call it! Going 40 in the passing lane while texting and fixing there lips should be pulled of there license entirely! Some women on the road need alot more than make-up to get thru the day! I hope this is not racist hahahaha "

" it's Walmart rage not road rage, that place is dangerous. With the new superstore part having opened this week people are flocking there like it was black Friday. After attempting to navigate my way through hordes of nonenglish speaking shoppers who think it is proper to leave their cart in the middle of the isle while they walk up and down the isle jabbering to themselves.

Makes me not want to go back. "
