Plainville Police Association kicks off fundraiser
Top Headlines The proceeds from this campaign and event will help support scholarship funds, along with the youth and charitable activities that the association sponsors throughout the year. The association's drive will end the first week of November. During the drive, a local telemarketing firm will be calling area residents seeking support. 'Sunny' visits Plainridge Sunny the miniature wonder horse, who finished in second place in America's "Most Talented Pets on NBC's "Today Show," visited Plainridge Racecourse on Monday. He is owned by Tom and Diane Long, who own, train and race their harness horses at the Plainridge Racecourse. Get flu shot Thursday The board of health will hold a seasonal flu clinic for high-risk individuals from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Oct. 15 at the senior center, 9 School St., on the lower level. The clinic is open to residents who meet the following criteria: All persons 65 or older, pregnant woman in any trimester and persons of any age with chronic medical conditions requiring regular medical follow-up. Chronic medical conditions include heart or lung disease (including asthma), diabetes, blood disorders, cancer or cancer treatment, HIV/AIDS. This clinic is for seasonal flu only. Eat clamcakes at church A supper of clamcakes and chowder will be served during the country fair on Friday, Nov. 6 at the Plainville United Methodist Church, 16 East Bacon St. Upcoming suppers for remainder of season follow. Dec. 12 - Baked ham, homemade Boston baked beans, cole slaw, mashed potatoes. Jan. 9 - Chicken pot pie, a calendar supper. Feb. 13 - Lasagna. March 13 - Meatloaf. April 10 - Shepherd's pie. May 8 - Oven-roasted chicken and salads. Angelcat Holiday Craft Fair is Nov. 7 Angelcat Haven Feline Rescue will hold its 3rd Annual Holiday Craft Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the North Attleboro Elk's Lodge, 52 Bulfinch St. Admission is a minimum $1 donation; children younger than 12 get in free. Along with craft items there will be baked goods, food, refreshments and raffles. Vendors and crafters include jewelry makers, scrap bookers, Tastefully Simple, The Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, Mia Bella Candles, and others. All proceeds go directly to cover medical expenses for cats and kittens. Due to the poor economy and foreclosures, Angelcat faces the challenge of helping more cats than usual with with medical attention and finding permanent loving homes. Tables are available for $35 for crafters and vendors interested in selling their items. Exhibitors are asked to provide one item for the raffle (to be donated the day of the event) Set up begins at 9 a.m. the day of the fair. Athletic League to meet The annual meeting of Plainville Athletic League, Inc. (PAL) will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8 at the PAL Clubhouse located on Everett Skinner Road in Plainville. Check out St. Martha's Fair St. Martha's Parish is holding its annual holiday fair - its major fundraiser of the year for programs, Friday, Nov. 13 and Saturday, Nov. 14, and is looking for donations. The fair offers a basket raffle, home-baked goods, handmade items, a white elephant table, and full-service kitchen. Donations in the form of gift certificates, money, food and merchandise for the raffles are being sought. Donations will be recognized on basket labels and other locations, including the church bulletin and the church's Web site, StMarthaschurch.org. Would you like to get together with a group of Plainville longtimers and discuss life in town, how it has changed from a small village into a growing town? Volleyball, hoop offered Plainville Park Department programs for the fall include: Adult coed volleyball - The program runs through Dec. 23 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wood School gym on Messenger Street. The cost is $65 for the 13-week program or $6 per night. Men's Over-30 basketball - The program will be offered on Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Jackson School gym on Messenger Street.
