Police bust 'Blu-ray boosters'
![]() Top Headlines While his wife, Alice, waited in their car outside the store, Jeffrey Currie, pushing a shopping cart holding a backpack with $987 worth of DVDs, was confronted inside the store by Officer James Rockett, police said. The couple allegedly had hit the store earlier in the month, too, on Oct. 7, police said. Jeffrey Currie left the shopping cart, ran outside, jumped a 12-foot chain-link fence behind Stop & Shop and ran into the woods between the Interstate 495 overpass and highway exit ramps, Officer William McEvoy said. Rockett radioed McEvoy, who was driving around the parking lot searching for Currie's car. McEvoy said he drove toward the fence, then left his cruiser, found Jeffrey Currie and ordered him out of the woods. Rockett arrested Alice Currie, whose car was towed. Target officials had begun calling the Curries "the Blu-ray Boosters" because "they've hit numerous Target stores," McEvoy said. The Curries allegedly shoplifted $1,165 worth of Blu-ray DVDs from the Plainville store on Oct. 7, McEvoy said. Loss prevention staff at the Plainville store called police about 1:45 p.m. Monday when they saw the Curries inside the store, he said. Police charged both Jeffrey Currie, 39, and Alice Currie, 51, of Taunton, with two counts of shoplifting over $250. Jeffrey Currie also was charged with resisting arrest. The couple was released on personal recognizance following arraignment Tuesday in Wrentham District Court, according to the clerk magistrate's office. They may face charges in Taunton and Stoughton as well, McEvoy said. Wrentham officers Stephen Hearon and David Halloway assisted Plainville with Monday's arrests, McEvoy said.
