SUN CHRONICLE STAFF

Angelcat Haven Feline Rescue is holding a special kitten adoption Meow-a-Thon from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at 36 Bacon Square.

This year has brought a greater influx of homeless cats and kittens, says Angela Frankudakis, president of Angelcat Haven. Due to the poor economy and many local foreclosures, the group has been faced with helping more cats than usual. "2009 has been a difficult one," she says. "We've had more pregnant cats and kittens than usual. They are just not recession proof."

Adoption applications will be available the day of the event. To help expedite the process, you can download an application from www.angelcathaven.com and forward the completed form to info@angelcathaven.com or fax to 508-643-1999. The adoption fee of $100-$130 includes a full vet exam, vaccinations, and medical screening.

All adoptable cats are currently in foster homes with loving volunteers. Please give these adorable, well-socialized and healthy kittens a chance, by opening your home to an animal in need - a lovable pet is waiting to join your family.
Questions? Call 508-203-4240 or e-mail info@angelcathaven.com.

Drivers aid charities

The New England Amateur Drivers Club that races out of the Plainridge Racecourse are as charitable as you can get. For the last six years the drivers have donated their fees to charity. The organization has been together since 2003 and has donated thousands of dollars to needy charities across the region. The president of the club, Ray Ahto, was part of the committee that picked the charities for this year: New Hope, Amanda Nelson - a women's shelter, the Plainville Lions Club, Rosemary Coates, the Living Bread Food Pantry, and Rev. Peter Parent.

Student post

Elizabeth Masison, daughter of Ann and James Masison of Plainville, was named a resident assistant for the Office of Student Life at St. Michael's College for the 2009-2010 academic year. Masison is a sophomore, history and Spanish double major at the liberal arts Catholic college in Burlington, Vt. Masison graduated from Bishop Feehan High School.

Police campaign under way

The Plainville Police Association is preparing for its Holiday Concert, which is scheduled for Jan. 9 at the Mansfield Holiday Inn. The concert will include a beach party with tropical fruits and appetizers along with the Local Beach Boys tribute band The Driftwoods.

The proceeds from this campaign and event will help support scholarship funds, along with the youth and charitable activities the association sponsors throughout the year. The association's drive will end the first week of November. During the drive, a local telemarketing firm will be calling area residents seeking support.
