Selectmen give Seekonk executive mixed review

SEEKONK - Town Administrator Michael Carroll has received mixed reviews from selectmen for his job performance.

The results of Carroll's job evaluation were revealed at the last board of selectmen's meeting.

Carroll was evaluated by several criteria, including leadership skills, problem-solving capability, resource management, and planning, communicating, and executive strategic direction.

Although Carroll was praised for his handling of the town's finances and budgets, the board of selectmen felt communication needed to be improved, particularly between Carroll and town employees.

Selectmen also complained of having to make several requests of Carroll for documents and other information. On the plus side, Selectman John Whelan noted that Carroll had outperformed the last several town administrators.

"I think you're doing a great job," Whelan said to Carroll.

Selectman Robert Richardson, concurred, noting Carroll had dealt with a lot of human resource issues and had successfully negotiated several employee contracts.

"You've done an admirable job," Richardson said.

Carroll, a former executive secretary for the town of Randolph, was hired in December 2007 and signed a three-year contract which will expire in 2011.
