GIRLS SOCCER: Feehan proves too much

REHOBOTH - The Bishop Feehan High girls' soccer team has a lot of weapons on the field. Even with one of the Shamrocks' best, Taylor Levy out for the season with a back injury, Bishop Feehan has a knack, a flair for possession of the ball and filtering it forward.

Scoring a trio of first half goals, the once-beaten Shamrocks routed Dighton-Rehoboth 3-0 Monday at the Bliss Soccer Complex in a non-league match.

"They are a very talented team," surmised D-R coach Jeff White of the 15-1-2 MIAA Tournament-bound Shamrocks. "They're good soccer players, they know how to play the game."

The Shamrocks played the game with such flair, a half-dozen goals or more could have been taken against the MIAA Tournament-bound Falcons (10-5-2).

Caroline Arnold scored the match-winner for Feehan in the 12th minute. Annie Galvin, who set up that go-ahead goal, made it 2-0 in the 18th minute and Jessica Miller drilled a 12-yard drive off the crossbar for the third goal, in the 23rd minute of the match.
"We have a lot of girls scoring goals," said Feehan coach Phil Silva, who also has a wall of players - sweeper Jordan Logue, let wing Marissa Boulerice, outside back Jen Samson and defensive midfielder Jill Fleet - at neutralizing opponent's attacks.

The Falcons were so stymied, with minimal containment and possession, other than some runs by injured striker Suzie Newman and some advancement by freshman striker Tammy Lynch, D-R did not have a possession, did not have a threat against Feehan goalie Melissa Ellis.

A cross by Galvin, which Siobhan Devoy deflected forward in front of the D-R net set up Arnold's goal. Then six minutes later, a cross out of the right wing by Erin Casey perfectly found the foot of Galvin.

The Shamrocks await word of their first round foe and likely a home match Friday or Saturday at McGrath Stadium for the start of the MIAA Tournament. D-R, meanwhile, finishes off its South Coast Conference season today with a makeup match against Fairhaven.

Mansfield 1, North Attleboro 0

NORTH ATTLEBORO - The Rocketeers are out and so too are the Hornets. North Attleboro did everything right except score a goal against rival Mansfield, the Hornets escaping with a 1-0 victory in the Hockomock League match to eliminate North Attleboro from MIAA postseason contention.

Hornet sophomore Kailee Paulson scored not only her first goal of the season, her first varsity goal for the match-winner in the 70th minute, finishing off a series of wall passes with Kelsey Alexander taking the assist. Mansfield (6-8-3) was eliminated from post-season consideration last week.

North dominated play, mustering 20 shots at Hornet senior goalie Jackie McPherson (eight saves). "They had the better run of play," said Mansfield coach Kevin Smith, "but not a lot of great scoring opportunities. Most of their shots were so far out, they were not dangerous. Jackie was really only tested on a pair of corners (kicks)."

Sweeper Erin Bruno, freshman stopper Ashley Bjorkman and Kristin McDonough were stellar in the defensive zone for Mansfield, which avenged a 2-1 loss to the Rocketeers earlier in the season. The Hornets had five shots, being spurred away from the penalty box area by the Rocketeers' stellar central defender Ashley Chretien.

"We had a good amount of shots on goal but nothing really stretched McPherson out," North coach Geoff Burgess said. "we dominated the possession, especially through the midfield. We developed a lot of good chances."
North's Meriesa Cote played well on the outside while Chretien had a solid game in the middle for the Rocketeers, who saw their record fall to 6-9-2, eliminating them from postseason contention.

North finishes its season with another Hockomock League home match today against King Philip.

Foxboro 2, Sharon 0

FOXBORO - The Warriors continued their run of solid play as they closed out their regular season schedule, blanking Sharon to finish the regular season with a 10-6-4 record.

The Warriors got on the board early, Rachel Jamieson converting on a cross from Maggie Brown seven minutes into the game and calmly placing it in the back of the net. Foxboro doubled its lead with 16 minutes remaining in the first half off a Jamieson corner kick. Leah Callahan controlled the ball and shot on the Sharon net, the Eagle defense clearing the ball near the goal-line but not before the referee ruled the ball had crossed the line for Foxboro's second goal of the game.

Senior keeper Caitlin Brolin made four saves in net for the shutout on Foxboro's senior night.

The Warriors await their seeding in the MIAA Division 2 South tournament.
