EASTON- Author of "The Girls from Ames: A Story of Women and a Forty-Year Friendship," by Jeffrey Zaslow, and one of the "girls," Professor Jane Nash, will speak at Temple Chayai Shalom in Easton on Nov. 1, at 11 a.m.

We never know where life will take us, but for the Girls from Ames they know they will take the journey together. The Wall Street Journal columnist and author of the best seller The Last Lecture, Jeffrey Zaslow, chronicled the remarkable friendship of eleven childhood friends from Ames Iowa who despite great odds maintain their lasting friendship through college, jobs, marriages, parenthood, divorce, illness and even death.

In 2003 Zaslow wrote a compelling column about lasting female friendships. Of the hundreds of responses he received one was from a woman who spoke of her friendship with 10 women who grew up together in Ames, Iowa. Zaslow was intrigued by their closeness and commitment to one another. The more he spoke to them and to others about them, the more he knew that their story would be an inspiration to others. The story of their friendship is contained in "The Girls from Ames: A Story of Women and a Forty-Year Friendship."

It is a book that will make you laugh, cry and long for the type of relationship these women have with one another. In a rare opportunity, Temple Chayai Shalom, 239 Depot Street, South Easton, will host a program including brunch and presentation by Jeffrey Zaslow and Jane Nash on Sunday Nov. 1 beginning at 11 a.m. The program is free and open to the public. For more information call the temple office at 508-238-6385 or check their website: www.templechayaishalom.org.
