WRENTHAM - Traffic was diverted around a small section of South Street early Saturday afternoon, when a utility pole near the center of town caught fire.
The pole at the intersection of South and Minot streets was reportedly on fire around 1 p.m. when a wooden cross arm appeared to have broken, and a primary wire may have come into contact with a secondary wire.
The fire burned itself out while the road was shut down.
Firefighters and police officers diverted traffic around the scene by moving vehicles through the town's public safety complex for a 30-minute period.
Once a utility crew responded to the scene, and cut power to the affected wires, the road was reopened.
