Top Headlines Alice May (Blackwood) Caron, 88 NORTH ATTLEBORO - Alice May (Blackwood) Caron, 88, of Hoppin Hill Road, North Attleboro, died on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Armand Joseph Caron, to whom she was married for 56 years prior to his death on Dec. 31, 2002. Born in Providence, Rhode Island on Dec. 10, 1920, she was a daughter of the late James Blackwood and Caroline Wheelock (Freeman) Blackwood Mason. She was raised and educated in Mendon and Franklin and was a 1939 graduate of Franklin High School. Mrs. Caron resided in North Attleboro for more than 60 years, and for several years enjoyed the home she made with her husband maintained in Falmouth, where the couple enjoyed Cape Cod. In earlier years, Mrs. Caron was employed as a bank teller and later as a clerical worker for Jeweled Cross in North Attleboro for many years. However, her most satisfying role was that of a dedicated and devoted wife and mother. She loved the sounds of all types of music and she and her husband were ardent swing dancers. An ardent reader and golfer, her happiest times were those creating lifelong memories as she showered her children and, in later years, grandchildren, with love. She leaves four children: Jeannette L. Carr and her husband, Michael E. Carr, of North Attleboro; Nancy A. Driscoll of Attleboro; Carole A. Gallipeau and her husband, Francis Gallipeau, of Marblehead and David A. Caron and his wife, Sigilit Caron, of Los Angeles, California; five grandchildren: Meggan A. Carr and her spouse, Miranda McNally, of Medway; Michael D. Carr of North Providence, Rhode Island; Caitlin E. Driscoll of Hull; Zoƫ Caron of Los Angeles, California and Christopher Remeika of Marblehead; a sister-in-law: Ann Blackwood of Plainville and several extended family members and friends. She was eagerly expecting the arrival of her first great-grandchild. She was the twin sibling of the late James Blackwood and was the sister of the late Dora Beksha and Lloyd Blackwood. Virginia Edith Becker, 95 ATTLEBORO - Virginia Edith Becker, 95, of Park Street, Attleboro; formerly of Canterbury Woods, Garfield Avenue, Attleboro; died on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009 at the Life Care Center of Attleboro, where she had resided since March. Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on Dec. 2, 1913, she was a daughter of the late Louis C. and Marion (DeWolfe) Becker. She was raised and educated in the City of Attleboro and was a 1931 graduate of Attleboro High School. She remained a resident of her native city her entire life. Miss Becker was employed as an office worker for the former Massachusetts Electric Company for 43 years prior to her retirement in 1975. She was a longtime member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, Attleboro. Miss Becker was a member of the Sturdy Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and as a volunteer at Sturdy Memorial Hospital donated 3,082 hours since she started donating her time in 1968. In 2008, Miss Becker was recognized for having donated more than 3,000 hours and recently was making calf warmers at her home to donate to the hospital. For several years, she volunteered at the former Mental Health Thrift Shop on Union Street in Attleboro. Among her close family friends that she leaves behind include Daniel and Betty E. Larson of Attleboro and Russell and Carlene Nelson of Attleboro. She was the dear cousin of the late Dorothy Chatfield and her son, the late David Chatfield, and Flora Larson-Topeka. John Emil Laurila Jr., 77 ATTLEBORO - John Emil Laurila Jr., 77, of Valerie Drive, Attleboro, died on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Helen R. (Brown) Laurila, R.N., to whom he was married on August 7, 1956. Born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts on May 25, 1932, he was a son of the late John Emil Laurila Sr. and Elsa (Rantanen) Laurila. He was raised and educated in his native community of Fitchburg, where he was a graduate of Fitchburg High School, where he was a member of the varsity tennis team. Mr. Laurila proudly served his country with the United States Army, with which he served from Dec. 11, 1952 until his honorable discharge on Dec. 10, 1954 with the rank of corporal. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal for his devoted service. Prior to his retirement in 1990, Mr. Laurila was employed as a wholesale salesman and retail store manager, having been affiliated with the Firestone Corporation at various locations for many years. Since moving to Attleboro, Mr. Laurila attended the Second Congregational Church. He was a member of the Aurora Lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons in Fitchburg for more than 50 years. During his tenure as the manager of the local Firestone store, Mr. Laurila was a member of the Attleboro Lions Club. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time with his cherished grandchildren. In addition to his wife of 53 years, he leaves five children: Thomas J. Laurila of Attleboro; Peter A. Laurila of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; James R. Laurila of Florence; David M. Laurila of Attleboro and Amy Jo Ardnt of Niskayuna, New York; six grandchildren and a sister: Elsie Laurila Baer of Chilmark, Martha's Vineyard. Visitation has been respectfully omitted. Kathleen "Kathy" Marie Morse, 40 NORTH ATTLEBORO - Kathleen "Kathy" Marie Morse, 40, of Birch Road, North Attleboro, a loving daughter, sister, granddaughter and aunt, passed peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009 at home. Born on March 30, 1969 in Attleboro, Kathy was the beloved daughter of Donna A. (Aveiro) Clements of Norton and Norman "Scott" S. Morse of Mansfield. Kathy was formerly of Mansfield and was a graduate of Foxboro High School, Class of 1991. Kathy was employed at Attleboro Enterprises Inc. of North Attleboro. She enjoyed watching sports, especially the Boston Red Sox. She also enjoyed watching game shows on television and particularly enjoyed the show "Deal or No Deal." Kathy loved limousine rides and one of the highlights of her life was a trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL on her thirty-fifth birthday. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and always had an endless smile. Kathy attended the Community Covenant Church in Rehoboth and the Fruit of the Spirit Mission Church in South Attleboro. In addition to her beloved parents, Donna and Scott, Kathy is survived by a sister, Stephanie J. Pazniokas and her husband John of Attleboro; a brother, Aaron D. Morse and his wife Nicole of Warren, RI; a grandmother, Edith (Morton) Morse of Attleboro; a nephew, Nathaniel Pazniokas; two nieces, Abigail and Sarah Pazniokas; an aunt, Constance Leroux of Attleboro; other aunts, uncles, cousins and her caregivers and friends at the Horace Mann Educational Association. Kathy was the beloved granddaughter of the late Manuel and Mary Aveiro and Norman F. Morse. (Taylor) Finn, 87, of Norton, formerly of Florida, and the South Shore, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. She was the beloved wife of the late Frederick J. Finn, who died on March 26, 1988. Born in Olanta, South Carolina on Dec. 20, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Dennis and Frances (Moore) Taylor. Kathleen grew up and was educated in South Carolina. After marrying her late husband, they moved back to Boston and later resided in the South Shore towns of Randolph, Braintree and Weymouth. She had lived in the Norton area for the past 11 years and had previously made her home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for over 20 years. Mrs. Finn was a former Realtor in Florida for many years, and when younger she was a hairdresser. While living in Florida, Kathleen was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Elks in Fort Lauderdale, and while a resident of Weymouth was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed the many wonderful times spent in the presence of her loving family. She is survived by her devoted children, Francine M. Finn of San Diego, California, Deborah K. Cameron and her husband Gary of Norton and Gregory F. Finn and his wife Lynn of Lake Worth, Florida. She was the dear sister of Elva Idarola of Billerica and the late Dennis Taylor. She is also survived by her cherished five grandchildren, Tom Cameron of Norton, Jim Cameron and his wife Kristal of Norton, Brian Abel of Boca Raton, Florida, Garrett Finn of Boca Raton, Florida and Heather Rodrigues of Hollywood, Florida. She was the great-grandmother of James Cameron of Norton, and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Nancy (DiMarzio) Richards, 76 LINTON, IND. - Nancy (DiMarzio) Richards, 76, of Linton, Indiana, passed away on Monday, Oct. 5, 2009 at Millers Merry Manor in Sullivan, Ind. She was born in Foxboro, the daughter of the late Cesare and Irene (Jackson) DiMarzio. Nancy was a graduate of Foxboro High School, Class of 1952, and was a certified nurse's aide in nursing homes for over 42 years. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Linton. Survivors include her husband Edward Richards of Linton, to whom she was married on Sept. 1, 1952; two sons, Robert Richards and his wife Esther of Omaha, Neb., and William Richards and his wife Peggy of Watertown, Wis.; two daughters, Jane and her husband Joe Frassrand of Lake Tapp, Wash., and Debora and her husband Richard Morris of Linton; five brothers, John DiMarzio of Monticello, N.Y., Alessandro Veno DiMarzio and Roger DiMarzio of Foxboro, Dino DiMarzio of Brookins, Ore., and Norgio DiMarzio of Placerville, Calif.; four sisters, Amelia Brooks and Irene Bouchard of Foxboro, Yolanda McAuliffe of Fairhaven and Carmarena DiMarzio of Providence; and nine grandchildren, Laura, Robin, Kilei, Christopher, Matthew, Jason, Darrell, Dereck and Alisha. She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Ryan; two brothers, Gulielmo and Fermino; and a sister, Virgilia DiMarzio. Harold Theodore Selig, 80 ATTLEBORO - Harold Theodore Selig, 80, of John Street, Attleboro, died on Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. Born in Revere, Massachusetts on Jan. 6, 1929, he was a son of the late Irving and Irene (London) Selig. He resided in Attleboro for more than 30 years. He earned his bachelor's degree from Bentley College. Mr. Selig was a veteran of the United States Army, having served from April 18, 1951 until his honorable discharge on April 17, 1953. During his tenure with the armed services, Mr. Selig was a member of the Army band. Prior to his retirement in 1993, Mr. Selig was employed as an accountant for Bristol Glass Company in Attleboro. Letourneau Jr., 66, of Charles Street, North Attleboro, passed away at home on Oct. 1, 2009. Born in Norton on May 9, 1943, he was a son of the late Roland G. Letourneau Sr. and Albina (Dumont) Letourneau. Roland was educated at Sacred Heart School in North Attleboro. He was a longtime employee of the Grimaldi Construction Company in North Attleboro. He is survived by two brothers, Daniel Letourneau of Bellingham and Roger Letourneau of North Attleboro.
