'Judi' MacDonald, 61

BELMONT, N.H. - Judith Ann "Judi" MacDonald, 61, of 417 South Road, died at the CRVNA Hospice House, Concord on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009 after a two year battle with breast cancer.

Judi was born June 6, 1948 in Easton, Maryland, the daughter of Phyllis M. (Duff) and John A. MacDonald Jr. She was a Seeker her entire life.

Judi was raised in Norton, Mass. and graduated from Norton High School in 1966. In the early 1990s, she lived in Thornton and Plymouth, N.H. In 1997, she moved to Mesa, Arizona, where she lived for twelve years before moving to Belmont in April 2009. Judi was a CNA at the Apache Junction Health Care in Apache Junction, Arizona, leaving in March 2008 because of her failing health.

Judi was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Franklin, N.H.

Judi is survived by her two sons, Matthew B. Fulp of Centerville, Mass. and John R. Fulp of Auburn, Maine; her sister, Elaine M. Braley, and her husband David G. Braley Sr., of Belmont, N.H, their daughter, Sherri M. Graton, and their granddaughter, Hayley, and son, Richard D. Braley, and his fiancee, Katie, and their daughter, Madisyn; her two brothers, Douglas D. MacDonald and Kenneth MacDonald, both of Norton, Mass. and several other nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents and by her nephew, David G. Braley Jr.

There will be no calling hours.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Franklin, 206 Central St., Franklin, N.H. on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009 at 1 p.m. led by Gail Morrison.

Esther L. Buck, 96

MANSFIELD - Esther L. Buck, 96, a longtime resident of Mansfield, died Sept. 28, 2009 in Blaine, Wash. She was the wife of the late Ralph A. Buck. Born in Easton, Mass. in 1912, she was the daughter of the late Grace A. (Packard) Buck and George M. Buck.

Until she moved to the West Coast, Esther was an enthusiastic participant in the Mansfield Council on Aging activities, where she had her own special chair at the bingo table. She also enjoyed bridge and other games played with family and friends. She was a past matron and, for many years, treasurer of the Mansfield chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Esther was proud of the children she raised and loved the time she spent with her brothers, sisters, and the rest of her family. She is survived by four stepchildren and two children: Janet (Buck) Haskell of Mansfield, Roger L. Buck and his wife Muriel of Newport, R.I., Louise (Buck) Stupack of Sandwich, Richard E. Buck and his wife Marion of North Andover, Curtis W. Buck and his wife Rita of Norton, and Christine (Buck) Owens and her husband Larry of Blaine, Wash.

She also leaves numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, two grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her six sisters and six brothers: Dorothy Mullen, Olive Martin, Anna Buck, Florence Buck, Frances Boyle, Virginia Parker, Horace Buck, Willis Buck, Carroll Buck, Donald Buck, Russell Buck, and Charles I. Buck. She was also predeceased by three stepchildren: Ralph Oldfield, Charles O. Buck, and Muriel Ramsdell.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a memorial service and reception following the service on Thursday, Oct. 22, Esther's 97th birthday, at 11 a.m. in the Orthodox Congregational Church, 17 West St., Mansfield. Interment at Spring Brook Cemetery will be private, at a later date.

Chester Jackman, 66

MANSFIELD - Chester A. Jackman, 66, died early on Thursday morning, Oct. 15, 2009, at Sturdy Memorial Hospital. He was the son of Edna G. (Stepnik) Jackman of Mansfield and the late Chester I. Jackman.

He was raised in Taunton and graduated in 1961 from Taunton High School. He also attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

He retired in 2006 as a principal instructor and course developer at Invensys of Foxboro after 39 years.

Chester served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War as a technician with the 90th Missile Maintenance Squadron (SAC). He was honorably discharged as an airman 1st class in 1967.

He was a member of the Mansfield Lions Club, the Foxboro Company 10- and 25-year clubs, and was past president of the Mansfield Little League. He was an avid cross stitcher and loved doing his sudoku puzzles.

Chester is survived by his wife Geraldine (Mahoney) Jackman, his son Wayne and his wife Cindy Jackman of Mansfield, and his daughters Julie Jackman and her partner Theresa Smithey of Middleboro, Melissa McCarthy of Mansfield and Tiffany and her husband Stephen Kimball of Bolton, MA, and a sister Patricia A. Jackman of South Easton. He is survived by four grandchildren, Brandon Jackman, Arianna and Collin McCarthy and Mark Chester Kimball.

Calling hours will be held at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South St., Foxborough on Thursday, Oct. 22 from 4 to 8 p.m.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Oct. 23 at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Burial with full Air Force honors will follow at Saint Mary's Cemetery in Mansfield.

Clara Wilson

FOXBORO - Clara Ella (Boynton) Wilson of Navarre, Florida and formerly of Foxboro, died unexpectedly at the Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.

Clara was born in Mansfield on Oct. 22, 1922, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Tucker) Boynton. She was a graduate of Mansfield High School.

She worked at the First National Store in Foxboro, and later worked as a bookkeeper for the Avon corporate office in Mansfield.

She was active with the Foxboro Senior Center.

She loved to travel, line dancing, she was accomplished in crocheting and knitting. She loved playing cards and creating stained glass projects.

Clara was the wife of the late Evan A. Wilson, who died in October of 1975.

She is survived by her children, John Wilson of Alabama, Ellen Elliott of Norton, Sherry and her husband Stephen Vale of Mansfield, Patricia Johnson of Navarre, Florida and Jeffrey Wilson of Maryland. Clara is also survived by her grandchildren, Joshua, Stephanie, Allyson, Matthew, Kathleen, Patrick, Andrea and the late Elizabeth and two great- grandchildren, Evan and Alexis. She is also survived by her brother, Edwin Boynton of Maryland, and her sister, Mary Ellen Churchill of Florida.

She was the sister of the late Ruth Roderick and Edith Sullivan.

Dorothy M. Duffy

Loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother

LOWELL - Dorothy M. (Rafuse) Duffy, 87, a resident of Wrentham for most of her life, passed away Sunday morning at the Westford House Nursing Home in Westford. She was the wife of the late Daniel A. Duffy, who passed away in 1989.

Dorothy was born in Boston on May 5, 1922, a daughter of the late Frank M. and Alice (Doyle) Rafuse. As a young girl, Dorothy attended school in Boston.

Dorothy married Daniel A. Duffy on June 6, 1946, and she remained at home as a loving housewife and mother.

Dorothy was a great wife to her husband Daniel and a great mother to her daughter Doreen. Always helpful, kind and considerate, Dorothy would do anything for her family. As a stay-at-home mom, there were always baked goodies in her kitchen. In her free time, Dorothy enjoyed crossword puzzles and going to the library.

Dorothy especially loved her granddaughters and her great-grandsons.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Doreen Jones and her husband David of Lowell; her two granddaughters, Danyl Williams and her husband Isacc of Lowell, and Deana Jones of Lowell; three great-grandsons, Austin Williams, Maxwell Williams, and Isaiah Williams; a brother-in-law, Aaron Frankel of New York, NY, and her dear friend Sil O'Connell of Wrentham.

Dorothy was the step-daughter of the late Beulah Rafuse and the sister of the late Mel Rafuse and Ruth Frankel.

Family and friends may call at the Fay McCabe Funeral Home, 105 Moore Street, Lowell on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Dorothy's funeral aervice will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.

John J. Cronin Jr., 79

READING - John J. Cronin Jr. of Reading and formerly of Medford died Oct. 16. He was 79 years of age.

Born in Medford on August 5, 1930, he was the son of the late John J. and Mary (Harrington) Cronin.

Mr. Cronin was a graduate of Medford High School, Class of 1948.

He later was the owner and operator of City Service Gas Station of Belmont. In 1960 he joined the Medford Police Department, from where he later retired.

He enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening and attending the sporting events of his six grandchildren.

Mr. Cronin was the husband of the late Marilyn H. (McCarthy).

He is survived by his three sons Jack E. Cronin and his wife Eileen of Plainville, Michael A. Cronin and his wife Catherine and Daniel Cronin and his wife Patty, all of Wakefield. He was the brother of Walter Cronin and Mary McShea of Wareham and Helen McCarran of Watertown. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Kimberly, Stacey, Kayla, Cameron, Kirsten and Shannon.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Tuesday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Ave., Wakefield at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.
