Be sure to thank a shelter volunteer this week

Nine Lives of Norton Feline Rescue Shelter along with other shelters in the United States will be celebrating National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week this week.

In 1996, The Humane Society of the United States launched National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week. This campaign was designed to acknowledge and promote the invaluable role shelters play in their communities and to increase public awareness of animal welfare issues and shelter services.

This year has been a particularly hard year for shelters. At Nine Lives of Norton Feline Rescue Shelter our current population is double what is was a year ago and we are constantly receiving calls from people who can no longer keep their animals because they have lost their jobs and must move, etc.

Please support your local non-profit shelters. Tell them what a great job they do caring for the homeless animals. Please remember to have your animals spayed/neutered. This is the only way we are going to reduce the homeless animal population. Tell the volunteers who work at these shelters that they are appreciated. And, if you can, donate supplies to help the shelters. In these times any donation helps to care for the animals in our care.

Thanks to all who help Nine Lives of Norton by volunteering, donating goods and money and supporting the work we do. It is truly appreciated.
